Dr.MS Swaminathan a renowned Indian agricultural scientists and along with that father and main architect of transformatory Green Revolution in India dies on 28 September 2023 at the age of 98 on his residence in Chennai.
Acquirements of MS Swaminathan
MS Swaminathan was recipient of various prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Padma Vibhushan. According to Biotech Express Magazine Swaminathan was awarded with 32 international awards and along with that 33 national awards till the year 2016.
He was also conferred with Shanti Swarup Bharat Nagar award in 1961, H K Firodia Award, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National award and the Indira Gandhi Prize, apart from various international awards also including Ramon Magsaysay award in 1971 and the Albert Einstein world Science award (1986).

Swaminathan’s wife Mina passed away too before in 2022. Now as family Swaminathan was only left with the three daughter’s Soumya Swaminathan, Madhura Swaminathan and Nitya Swaminathan.

Swaminathan had hold many administrative positions in various agricultural research laboratories. After which He also served as the director general of Indian council of Agricultural research and later International Rice research Institute.
MS Swaminathan also served as principal secretary of ministry of Agricultural in 1979, He also became president of International Union of the conservation of Nature and natural resources in year 1988. He was also nominated to Rajya Sabha in 2007 and completed the full term of Rajya Sabha till the year 2013.
About Green Revolution
In 1960’s when India faced shortage of food, Grains Dr. Swaminathan along with various other scientists developed high yield variety seeds of wheat and rice. And these development marked transition from traditional agriculture to modern yield varieties with various associated techniques . This led to green revolution and Swaminathan was denoted as father of Green Revolution.
