EAM Jaishankar and his Suriname counterpart Albert Ramdin on Wednesday. The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar co-chaired the 8th India-Suriname Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement, mentioning that the meeting allowed for a thorough evaluation of advancements in trade and commerce, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and traditional medicine, energy and mining, development collaboration, cultural exchange, and personal connections between people.

It was a mutual decision from both sides to expand cooperation in areas of digital public infrastructure, small and medium enterprises, cyber security, capacity building, millet production, organization of informative seminars, exchange of scholars, and multi-faceted cultural events.

Both these sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including developments in their respective neighborhoods during the meeting. The next round of Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) will be held in Paramaribo as the two foreign ministers decide. The date is yet to be confirmed as per the mutual convenience of both ministers.

EAM Jaishankar made a statement through its X ( Twitter account)

Taking on his social media X, EAM Jaishankar addressed, ” Concluded productive discussions with FM Albert Ramdin at the 8th India- Suriname Joint Commission Meeting. Took stock of our bilateral ties, focusing on economic, development, defense, capacity building, and cultural cooperation. We exchanged views on shared concerns and aspirations of the Global South, our neighborhoods, cooperation via CELAC and CARICOM formats and at the UN.”

The Suriname Foreign Minister scheduled an official visit from December 5 and 6, he landed in New Delhi before that.

Suriname’s FM Albert Ramdin received a warm welcome upon his arrival in New Delhi to co-chair the 8th India-Suriname Joint Commission Meeting. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi shared that this meeting presents an opportunity to strengthen further the historical ties between India and Suriname on X.

The delegation-level talks with EAM Jaishankar were held on Wednesday by ramdin.

Ramdin’s arrival has been carefully planned to strengthen the connection between India and Surinam, demonstrating the dedication of both countries to fostering shared progress and cooperation.

The conclusion is marked as a significant diplomatic engagement as Ramdin’s departure is scheduled for 7th December.

As a part of historical linkages dating back to 149 years, India shares close, and friendly relations with Suriname. India established its diplomatic relations in 1976, right after Suriname’s independence on November 25, 1975. India opened its embassy in Paramaribo in 1977.
