With the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict , around the world, organizations and landmarks made symbolic gestures to show their support for Israel amid the current fighting between Hamas militants and Israel. The majestic Eiffel Tower in Paris was illuminated in blue light on a Monday night as a potent representation of France’s support for Israel during these challenging times. Israel’s national anthem, “Hatikvah,” played in the backdrop, resonating across the City of Light, in a moving display of solidarity. Videos of people from many backgrounds joining together to support Israel at the time were captured in the moment.
White House also extended its solidarity with Israel
On the same Monday, in Washington, D.C., the White House also lighted up the night with blue and white lights. This action was a blatant demonstration of support for Israel during its conflict with militants from Hamas. White House in White and Blue tonight, wrote Brett McGurk, the White House coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, alongside pictures of the lit White House on social media. We support Israel. In addition, he added his unambiguous message: “Tonight, America says clearly to the Israeli people, to the world, and to terrorists everywhere that we stand with Israel. President Joe Biden joined the movement.” That won’t alter at all.
Australia, United Kingdom, Germany too in support of Israel
Far more countries than just the US and France participated in the show of unity. Other well-known monuments around the world adopted the blue and white hues, delivering a strong statement of support for Israel during this difficult time.
The Sydney Opera House in Australia joined in with this international show of solidarity while the Empire State Building in New York City shimmered in blue and white. The well-known 10 Downing Street in London, which serves as the prime minister of the United Kingdom’s official residence and office, also lit up in blue and white to show solidarity for Israel. The Israeli flag’s colours were also draped over Germany’s Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of the country’s unification, acting as a beacon of solidarity from the heart of Europe.
350 digital advertising screens displayed Israel’s Flag in Kyiv
However, the outpouring of support across the globe didn’t end with lighting monuments. Israel’s flag was prominently displayed on over 350 digital advertising screens in the Ukrainian city of Kyiv for a half-hour as a symbolic gesture that was well received by both the Israeli people and the international community.
There have been terrible casualties and property damage as a result of the current uptick in warfare between the Hamas and Israeli security forces. Israel erected a blockade and increased its bombardment on the Gaza Strip on Monday, limiting the entry of vital goods like food and fuel. The cycle of violence and misery was further exacerbated by this counterattack, which was in response to a violent incursion by Hamas terrorists.
As tensions rise, Hamas has intensified the confrontation by pledging to damage Israeli prisoners of war if strikes on civilians take place without prior notice. The urgency of international attempts to mediate a truce and find a peaceful settlement to the protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict is underscored by this dismal reality.
The world’s support for Israel during these trying times is shown by the blue and white lighting of famous buildings and organizations. The US, UK, Germany, Australia, France , India have come in support of Israel. The human cost of the conflict and the cycle of violence, however, highlight the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a way that spares innocent lives and gives the area hope for a brighter future.
