Elon Musk Denies Claims of Gifting Cybertruck to Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov Amid Controversy

New Delhi: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has forcefully denied claims that he gifted a Cybertruck to
Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya and a close ally of Russian President Vladimir
Putin. The allegations was after Kadyrov posted a video on his Telegram channel, where he
expressed gratitude to Musk for the vehicle and showcased what appeared to be a heavily
modified Tesla Cybertruck, complete with a gun turret.

In the video, Kadyrov personally thanked Musk, inviting him to visit Grozny as his “most dear
guest.” The Chechen leader, known for his loyalty to Putin and his involvement in the
ongoing conflict in Ukraine, also mentioned that he intended to deploy the Cybertruck on the
battlefield. This statement, combined with the nature of the video, sparked widespread
speculation and concern, particularly given the geopolitical context.
Musk responded to these claims with a characteristic mix of bluntness and controversy on
his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). In a strongly worded post, he asked, “Are you
seriously so dumb that you think I donated a Cybertruck to a Russian general?” Musk didn’t
stop there, as he went on to criticize traditional media outlets, stating, “This is just another
example of how much the legacy media spreads lies.” His comments not only denied the
claim but also reignited debates about the role of media in shaping public perception,
especially concerning high-profile figures like Musk.
Kadyrov’s video, which quickly went viral, showed him driving the modified Cybertruck
through what appeared to be a military setting. The vehicle, was presented as a symbol of
strength and modern warfare, aligning with Kadyrov’s public image as a powerful military
leader. By publicly thanking Musk and extending an invitation to Grozny, Kadyrov seemed to
be leveraging Musk’s global fame to bolster his own image and narrative.
However, Musk’s denial of any involvement in providing the vehicle was swift and
unequivocal. His response highlighted not just the falsehood of the claims but also his
frustration with the media’s role in spreading what he perceives as misinformation. The use
of an offensive term in his response, however, drew significant criticism, with many
condemning his choice of language as inappropriate and unprofessional. Critics pointed out
that such language from a public figure of Musk’s stature could have broader implications.
The situation illustrates the complex and often volatile nature of information in the digital age.
With social media platforms playing an increasingly central role in the dissemination of news,
the speed at which rumors and misinformation can spread has become a significant concern. In this case, the combination of Kadyrov’s provocative video and Musk’s sharp
response created a perfect storm of controversy, drawing attention from around the world.
Kadyrov, who has been a staunch supporter of Russia’s military actions in Ukraine, is no
stranger to controversy. He has been subject to numerous sanctions from the United States
and the European Union, primarily due to his alleged human rights abuses and his role in the
conflict. His close relationship with Putin and his public displays of loyalty have made him a
key figure in the Russian government’s efforts to control the narrative surrounding the war in
Ukraine.
Musk, on the other hand, has often found himself at the center of media storms due to his
outspoken nature and willingness to engage directly with his critics. His influence as the
head of Tesla, SpaceX, and other ventures has made him a frequent target of both praise
and criticism. This latest incident underscores the challenges of navigating the public sphere
in an era where information—accurate or otherwise—can spread globally in an instant.
The aftermath of this exchange between Musk and Kadyrov will likely continue to play out in
the public eye, as both figures remain influential in their respective domains. For Kadyrov,
the video and the subsequent denial by Musk highlight the ongoing use of propaganda and
media manipulation in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
As the situation develops, it will be essential to watch how both Musk and Kadyrov navigate
the fallout from this incident, and what implications it might have for their public images and
for the broader geopolitical landscape.
