Epik High’s 20th anniversary posters create a laugh riot amongst fans showcasing the trio’s goofy personalities and the internet is loving it!
18th October, 2023, will mark the 20th debut anniversary of the Korean Hip Hop trio Epik High. To celebrate this milestone, the trio Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz are set to perform two shows, on the 16th and 17th December at Seoul’s Olympic Park Handball Stadium.
While Epik High are highly esteemed in the South Korean hip-hop field, throughout their 20 year illustrious career, Epik High has consistently surprised fans with their hilarious and witty concert posters, often drawing keen attention from everyone. Over the years, this hip-hop group has become renowned for their distinctive music style and also their penchant for creating posters that cleverly parody well-known entertainment related posters.
From 20th Century Fox to Barbie, Epik High does it all!
Hallmarking the band’s unseriousness, Tablo took to twitter sharing the anniversary concert teaser which parodies the 20th century fox logo.
But as he promised in his tweet, the main poster indeed blew everyone’s minds.
Tablo shared the poster on Twitter, where his band mates and him recreated the iconic from the movie Barbie! From their makeup to their expressions, everything exuded the real deal. Tablo also clarified that the poster was not edited, and they had a proper photoshoot to recreate the Barbie magic.
The poster showcases the three members, wherein Tablo portrayed the role of Barbie and DJ Tukutz was stylized as Ken, just like the characters in the original poster. The poster’s witty title, ‘K-Hiphop’s Daddy,’ playfully hints that Mithra Jin plays the role of Barbie’s dad. The title of the poster said “The father of K-HipHop,” an amusing wordplay between “Barbie” and the Korean word “abie” (father).
The previous recreations are also hilarious which shows that the band has been consistent
The poster left both international and Korean fans in splits, but this isn’t the first time the band has pulled off something like this. A post on the popular Korean forum Theqoo has gone viral which reveals the previous hilarious posters of Epik High, where they recreated other popular movies and TV shows, evidently committing to the cause.
In 2019, for their concert poster, Tablo and DJ Tukutz posed as Song Joong Ki and Park Bo Young respectively, from the film “A Werewolf Boy”.
The poster released in 2018, showcased the three of them slipping into the shoes of multiple characters from “Welcome to Dongmakgol” and the recreation was absolutely accurate.
In another hilarious concert ad in 2018, DJ Tukutz posed as the haunted school girl from “Whispering Corridors”.
In the poster released in 2016, Tablo channelled his inner Natalie Portman, serving looks in the parody poster of Black Swan, which was renamed as “Blue Swan.”
This fan forum post ended up summoning hundreds of other netizens who couldn’t control their laughter at Epik High’s madness. Many stated that the brilliant and hilarious posters alone made them want to attend their concerts and the comments on the post were even funnier.
