1. Somatic Therapies
Vogue Magazine predicts the crucial role Somatic therapy will play in the wellness field in the coming years. Talk Space describes SE therapy as a type of treatment that helps treat post-traumatic stress, past trauma, and other mental health conditions. This type of therapy connects a person’s mind and body, applying psychotherapy and physical therapies during the treatment.
Sophia Ali, psychotherapist and registered somatic movement therapist and educator, says the treatment lays: “emphasis on tapping into your physical sensations, which can help an individual release tension, pain, and anxiety while improving overall well-being.”
2. Sleep Hygiene
Riddled with sleep debt and labelled as the second-most sleep-deprived nation in the world after Japan (Source: Times of India), sleep hygiene is crucial for those much-needed snoozer hours. Speaking to Vogue Magazine, Dr Jitendra Varshney, wellness director of Six Senses Vana, which offers sleep programs, says: “Sleeping no longer is a necessity, but rather a luxury. With the increasing incidence of sleep disorders, stress, and a busy lifestyle, sleep-promoting wellness offerings and therapies are in demand.”
From hypnotherapists to energy healers, there has recently been a rise in practitioners who are warning against sleep procrastination. Simultaneously, India’s wellness market is also seeing a demand for ayurvedic therapies that focus on good sleep hygiene and practices.
3. Going Alcohol and Caffeine-Free
Morning coffee, a chilled glass of wine during dinner and a cocktail of drinks during events and special occasions. In 2024, the sober-curious movement is still going strong, and studies by Vino Joy News have revealed that an increasing number of young adults in the UK are turning away from alcohol.
According to Glamour Magazine, Specscart’s Health Practitioner, Danielle Pates, predicts that the trend of going alcohol-free will continue, suggesting that: “many will swap after-work drinks for gym sessions.” Pates also predicts that a lot of people will also be exploring the benefits of going caffeine-free in the new year. While sharing the benefits of removing caffeine from one’s diet, which can help the body better absorb micronutrients like calcium, iron, and B vitamins, she further adds: “Consuming caffeine up to 6 hours before bed can heavily impact your sleep cycle.”
4. Ayurveda
The past year has been enveloped in war, the probable resurgence of another pandemic and climate change. In the hustle and bustle of the modern world, the pursuit of wellness has become essential, and Ayurveda stands as a powerful practice for good health. Originating from ancient India, Ayurveda is more than a system of medicine, and according to Swadeshi Ayurved, it is a way of life that aligns the mind, body, and spirit.
According to Vogue, nowadays, health data is being improved upon and personalised and modern tech segues with Ayurveda. Wellness screenings result in a detailed report of biomarkers, which are then combined with an Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis for a prognosis. Wellness director Dr Neeru Jain says: “This trend where the East meets the West gives data to guests and they are fascinated by this.”
