FIA decided to make some changes due to the extreme weather conditions. Last weekend when the lights went out in Qatar and drivers raced continuously for 57 laps caused some extreme reactions from them, as the heat was so extreme Alex Albon one of the drivers racing for Williams claimed that he vomited after the race that too in his helmet, Logan Sargent also driving for Williams had to retire from the race as he was feeling unwell. On the other hand, Lando mentioned that it is too dangerous to race in these conditions.
What FIA had to say:
The FIA stated that the extreme heat and humidity during the Qatar Grand Prix had a bad impact on the health of racers. Furthermore, being elite athletes should not jeopardize their health at the cost of competing in these conditions. They also mentioned matters related to safety such as the infrastructure of the circuit and the safety of the car. The FIA declared that they’ll take necessary and reasonable measures to create and communicate parameters that are acceptable for the taking place of the competition.
They will begin by analyzing the situation so that they can provide data and information for improvement for the future. Next year’s Qatar GP will be held in December, which should avoid the extreme temperature and also prevent a repeating scenario. Making sure that their nothing wrong with going on which the race and that no incidents may happen due to extreme weather or that if the weather is too risky to go ahead, the matters lie in the hands of FIA.
Weather has always been an enemy for the sport and the players, extreme weather can cause serious injuries and in some cases even death, An example can be Artean Senna’s crash due to very heavy rain, it was a tragic event and a very emotional one. Also, the crash of Niki Lauda ended up not killing him but left him with a lot of injuries and scars, these events are very dangerous and these events show how brave, powerful, and heroic the racers are.
Although the weather can also increase interest in the sport the excess of everything is bad gets proved in these very sports, in the 2021 season during the Belgium Grand Prix, during the qualifying the rain was so heavy that Lando Norris crashed and lucky had no severe injuries which later led to the cancelation of the race as the rain continued till the Sunday.
Lance Stroll an Astron Martin driver and Alex Alon who drives for Williams were struggling to come out of their car post-race, later both the racers were given medical clearance. They are high-performance athletes and they have a very hectic and tough training schedule and process but still, they should not be made to go through these tough conditions after all a human body has its limit.
The temperature during the Qatar Grand Prix in Lusail Circuit stayed at a constant of 36 degrees Celsius and even increased to 40 degrees in the daytime. FIA will conduct a deep analysis of Qatar Gp to identify the problems and try to look for possible solutions.
