Fire at Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar Eye Hospital: Efforts to Control Blaze

This fire incident happened at Eye 7 Hospital in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. About 12 fire fighting vehicles arrived at the scene.

A large fire erupted in an eye hospital in Lajpat Nagar in Delhi on Wednesday. Police said 12 fire tenders have been pressed into service to control the fire, PTI reported.

No casualties have been reported yet, a Delhi Fire Services( DFS) functionary stated. The call regarding the fire was entered at 11. 30 am. The operation to put out the fire is in progress, the functionary added. The Eye 7 Hospital is located near to the Vinobapuri metro station in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi.

The fire at Eye 7 Hospital takes place a some days after another large fire passed at Eye Mantra Hospital in New Delhi’s Paschim Vihar. The fire started on the second floor of the hospital. Fortunately there were no casualties as all the inhabitants of the structure were vacated before the fire spread, said a firemen from Delhi Fire Services.

Nearly a month ago , a ruinous fire at a Hospital in Vivek Vihar claimed the lives of seven babies. The Delhi government has instructed all state- possessed and private hospitals to conduct a fire safety inspection In the meantime, multiple fire hazards have been discovered at the five- bed neonatal clinic in Vivek Vihar; the police are also probing why 27 oxygen tanks were stored there. Five of the oxygen cylinders had exploded during the fire that claimed the lives of newborns and injured some others.

In response to the feedback entered from the macro-level assessments, it called upon all states/UTs to enhance the compliance of institutions with the regulatory requirements and organise frequent simulation exercises on fire extremities.
