After the swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi and the councils of here, here are the new laws and agendas and the ministers responsible for the same.


Introduction and the oath ceremony of PM Narendra Modi

The Lok Sabha elections were held in India from 19 April till 1 June, the 2024 elections were conducted in 7 phases. The final result of Lok Sabha was out on 4th June 2024. The maximum number of seats were obtained by Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led by Narendra Modi. BJP won a total of 240 seats. The swearing-in ceremony of the council of ministers was held on 9th June, with Narendra Modi being the prime minister of India for third time in a row. Along with the PM, 72 ministers of the new coalition government took oath. Some of them were re-assigned their previous position while some new ministers were in-charge of the other.


New Laws and agendas

Some hours following the oath ceremony, the first task under the government is to enforce 3 criminal laws in the country. The 3 laws are Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Act, all these laws will be effective from July 1, 2024.

All these new rules will be replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860; the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. Home minister Amit Shah 3 revamped bills in Lok Sabha to supplant the previous criminal laws of the country, its main focus was to substitute the law enacted from the British era. These are the new laws and their description.


Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita this is of the new law introduced, which states that terrorism is an offence for which punishment is prescribed. It defines terrorism as an activity which can cause threat to the national, economic and integrity of India. It is stated as an act which is done with the intention to instill fear in people of in any part of India or any other place outside India. The act of manipulating and engaging people in terrorist activity, possessing a property by unfair means of threatning people knowing that it is derived from a terrorist act are all punishable under this. The punishment ranges from life time imprisonment to death penalty.


Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita is the second law introduced which majorly defines the community services. It states that the petty activities such as committing suicide, intoxicating someone publicly and defaming something or someone is punishable.


Bharatiya Sakshya Act is made to take in consideration the electronic evidences which means that the digital documents, text messages are considered valid in legal proceedings.

Meanwhile Amit Saha continues to be the Home Minister, Nirmala Sitharama, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Ashwini Vaishnaw all of them are re-assigned their prevision position of responsibility. Along with them are the new ministers who are assigned for the other departments. Shivraj Singh Chauhan is appointed as the new agriculture minister, Kiren Rijju is the new minister of parliamentary affairs, CR Patil is the new minister of Jan Shakti, JP Nadda is the new health minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, Annpurna Devi, Pralhad Joshi are assigned as the new ministers of labour& employment, Women & Child development, Food and renewable energy department respectively.
