A giant hole which is dubbed the ‘Gateway to Hell’ is growing faster than expected because of climate change.

Scientists have found out that this massive crater has tripled in size in just 30 years.
The crater has now covered over 200 acres and plunges 300 feet deep and is shaped like a stingray or a giant tadpole. In the satellite images from the 1960s, it started as a small crack but now it has now increased in a massive way.
The hole has become so large that it is now visible from space as well.
A geophysicist from Washington University, Roger Michaelides, described it as a rare opportunity to study permafrost, usually hidden beneath the Earth’s surface. “It’s mostly frozen dirt underground, which you can’t typically see unless it’s exposed, like in this massive slump,” he told Business Insider.
Researchers further claimed that the crater’s depth rapidly increased due to the permafrost melting to the bedrock underneath.
This crater is a huge reminder of climate change and its increasing consequences.
“I think we should be concerned about any technology that is capable of withholding the true nature of its capabilities because it could lead to users being manipulated by that technology in ways the user (and perhaps the developer) never intended,” said lead author Andres Rosero, a doctoral candidate at the University.
“We’ve already seen examples of companies using web design principles and artificial intelligence chatbots in ways that are designed to manipulate users towards a certain action. We need regulation to protect ourselves from these harmful deceptions.”
