Gossip Girl here,

Spotted: Gossip Girl has found its way into everyone’s closet

I’m all in for unveiling this one last scandal, so let’s all make Queen B proud.

Gossip Girl became a lens that ignited the souls of millions of fashionista teenagers who worshiped designer brands that they couldn’t afford in their wildest dreams. But there we all were, in awe of the show that designed our dream reality right in front of our eyes.

Gossip Girl’s take on fashion can be described by one of the most iconic lines by Blair Waldorf

“Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.”

Eric Damen was the architect behind the iconic fashion looks on Gossip Girl and it’s no surprise that he also designed clothes for sex in the city, another important fashion stop. He designed every character with each fashion accessory representing a piece of their personality.

Gossip Girl showcased that fashion goes beyond mere aesthetics; it’s a canvas for self-expression. Blair Waldorf, with her iconic headbands, wielded style as a form of self-control and power. Her outfits were a symphony of sophistication, reflecting a poised sense of mastery over herself.

Enter Serena Van Der Woodsen, the epitome of liberation and untamed spirit. Her wardrobe radiated effortless freedom, as if she effortlessly slipped into each outfit, a sunlit embodiment of a carefree spirit—almost like a sunshine Barbie.

Chuck Bass, the maestro of opulence, wore his wealth and confidence with every bold, extravagant ensemble. His fashion choices were a statement of power and a willingness to venture into the audacious.

Nate Archibald’s fashion style, on the other hand, represented more of a soft boy aesthetic yet still classy, filled with sweaters that brought out his eyes and emphasized Archibald’s irresistible charm.

Jenny Humphrey’s style metamorphosis was a journey of self-discovery. Her initial gothic outfits, a stark contrast to Blair and Serena’s elegance, shouted rebellion and a quest for identity. As Jenny evolved, her fashion became a narrative of confidence, revealing her commitment to selfhood and the battles she fought for it.

Gossip Girl romanticized luxury and designer brands, to the extent that multiple designer brands like Chanel and Ralph and Lauren staged gossip girl as their own personal runway and the famous streets of New York became the new red carpet. This show ended up leaving its imprint on everything, from high-end runways to the vibrant pulse of street fashion.

Even in 2023, we see glimpses and the imprint of this iconic show in our very own closet. Here are a few Gossip Girl legacies to keep an eye on :

Gossip Girl’s Fashion Imprints :

Blair Waldorf’s Iconic Headbands:

Blair Waldorf’s iconic headbands evolved into more than just accessories; they became symbols of self-control, power, and confidence. With each episode, they seamlessly complemented her dresses and outfits, showcasing her impeccable styling skills. Undoubtedly, if anyone knows how to elevate a headband into a fashion statement, it’s our Queen B. So, if you haven’t added a headband to your collection yet, what are you waiting for?

Preppy School Girl Aesthetic – Academia Inspired:

The preppy schoolgirl aesthetic, complete with plaid and academia-inspired fashion, made a prominent mark. The show led with experimentation of high school uniforms, paying close attention to the small details of accessories, and styles that shaped the personalities of the characters. Each character had their own unique and iconic fashion sense which represented them as a person and helped us associate with them even more. This style found its way onto runways, in shows like Pretty Little Liars, and resonated in various similar stylings. The fall aesthetic embraced cozy sweaters, high-knee boots, and fashionable quotes, creating a timeless appeal.

Capes – A Full-Blown Trend:

Capes emerged as a full-blown trend, adding a touch of drama and elegance to the fashion scene. Bubble hem dresses, bodycon dresses, and gowns graced the runways, embodying different facets of glamor.

Metallics, Hats, and Silk Scarves:

The shimmer of metallics, epitomized by Serena’s dresses and West’s fashion choices, brought a touch of allure. Hats in various forms, from Blair’s retro hats to summer caps, became essential fashion statements. Silk scarves, once synonymous with Serena’s wardrobe, evolved to become integral components of entire outfits.

Pussybows, Neck Ties, and Cutouts:

Pussybows, reminiscent of Chanel‘s sophistication and Blair’s powerful aura, became a staple. Neck ties, sported by characters like Jenny, Serena, Nate, and Chuck, conveyed elements of style and power. Cutouts, notably a favorite of Serena, exuded a flirty and iconic “it girl” appeal.

T-Strap Heels, Leather, and Knee-High Boots:

T-strap heels, leather ensembles, and knee-high boots became synonymous with the show’s fashion landscape. Tights adorned everyone, initially bursting with colorful patterns and later evolving into detailed expressions of style.

Nightgowns and Robes:

Nightgowns and robes of gossip girl rolled out the idea that even laying down on your bed can be absolute luxury if you’ve got the right lingerie. The show also popularized wearing lingerie as a statement,

Hats – A Sign of Maturity?:

Hats, from Blair’s retro choices to a variety of stylish options, became more than mere accessories. They seemed to signify a sense of maturity, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the characters’ wardrobes.

Gossip Girl staged a runway of iconic high-end fashion looks on the bustling streets of New York City. It became the fantasy of all teenagers and the getaway show of every adult. I think it’s safe to say that the show was a fashion mogul, one that seeped into everyone’s closet forever.

You know you love me
