Performance of India

Till now, the record of India in Olympics is not so good. A lot of athletes have been failed to grab the medals. India rank 60 in the medals tally with just 3 medals in total. Among them two have been won by Manu Baker in shooting. Manu creates history by winning two medals individually (one in a single event and another with Sabarjeet Singh in the mixed event) in the shooting. Another medal won by Saurav Khusale in the air rifle event. All the 3 athletes have won 3 bronze medals.

Vinesh Phogat

Now, there is chance for Vinesh Phogat. In women’s 50Kg wrestling he stunned Olympic Champion Yui Susaki in the quarterfinal. In the Semifinal also, she also defeated Oksana Livach. Oksana was the bronze medalist of 2018 world championship. She was also the medal contender of last two Olympics- Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. In 2016, her career came to an end due a career-threatening injury. So she missed the Tokyo Olympics.

Susaki, the Tokyo games Gold medalist and also the four time world Champion, entered the competition with an unblemished record of 82 victories in her international career. But Vinesh knocked him out in a big stage like Olympics. Though Vinesh was 2-0 down during the game but at the last moment she earned valuable 3 points and won the match by 3-2.

In the later half, she faced the former European Champion and 2018 World Championship Bronze Medalist Ukraine’s Oksana Livach 7-5 to reach into the women’s 50kg Semifinal.

Now, Vinesh will face Cuba’s Guzman Lopez in the Semifinal of the Paris Olympic. The match will held on 6th August at 10:15 P.M according to I.S.T. She will now look for his maiden Olympic medal.

Other Sports

Though India have been successful in these two major sports, but still a question arises. Why the other athletes are failed to grab the medals in spite of the good performances? Even the badminton players like PV Sindhu and Laxya Sen are failed to bring the medal for their nation. Laxya Sen, a very talented shuttler finished 4th in the competition. Though Laxya failed to win this time, but we hope that he will bring a medal in LA Olympics in 2028.

Same things happens for TT team. Manika Batra, an experienced player failed to grab a medal for the country. Sreeja Akula is a young player and it is her first Olympic also, but we hope that she will bring the medal for the next Olympics.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can say that though all the athletes cannot be successful but some of them have the chance to bring the medal for our nation. Neeraj Chopra, last Olympic gold medalist has the opportunity also to bring the medal also. Hockey team also have the chance to win at least bronze.( if they lose today against Germany) Vinesh Phogat also has the golden opportunity. Chak de India!
