Feuds Hamper Haryana Congress’ Bid to Challenge Ruling BJP

The Haryana Congress party is grappling with significant internal challenges as it prepares for the upcoming state Assembly elections, despite its recent success in the Lok Sabha polls. The party’s factional feuds and infighting threaten to undermine its efforts to capitalize on the momentum gained from winning five parliamentary seats from the BJP.

Tensions Flare at Party Meeting

At a recent meeting of Haryana Congress leaders, chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Rahul Gandhi, the tensions within the party came to the forefront. Sirsa MP Kumari Selja openly accused the party’s in-charge, Deepak Babaria, of being “partial” towards the faction led by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Other leaders also criticized Babaria, alleging that he has been ignoring senior leaders and their supporters, which could have a detrimental impact on the party’s prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Lok Sabha Gains Overshadowed by Infighting

The Haryana Congress had managed to secure five Lok Sabha seats from the BJP in the recent general elections, a significant achievement that should have bolstered the party’s confidence and momentum. However, the internal divisions and factional feuds have overshadowed these gains, threatening to undermine the party’s efforts to mount a strong challenge against the ruling BJP in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s Call for Unity

During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi urged all the leaders to work together in a united manner. However, the factional tensions within the party remain, and the distribution of Lok Sabha tickets and the way Babaria has been handling the state unit have become points of contention among the leaders.

Challenges Ahead for the Haryana Congress

With the Assembly elections just a few months away, the Haryana Congress faces an uphill battle. The party’s internal divisions and infighting could severely hamper its ability to present a cohesive and effective campaign to the voters. The party will need to resolve its internal issues and present a united front if it hopes to challenge the ruling BJP effectively.
