Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi Singh on hunger strike until she is provided with 100 million gallons of water per day by Haryana.
Water Minister of Delhi, Atishi has stated that Haryana government closed every gate at Hathnikund Barrage for supplying water to Delhi and hence will continue with her indefinite hunger strike.
Atishi’s indefinite hunger strike in order to draw attention to the severe water crisis in New Delhi under intense heat entered the third day here.
She said, “I have been on a fast till death demanding the share of water. The government of Haryana is releasing almost 100 MGD less than it should be, thereby depriving nearly 28 thousand people living in Delhi of their access to safe drinking. Some media people are saying that Hathnikund Barrage is full but the gates have been locked by Haryana government.”
The minister also requested Haryana to unseal a dam so that this city could get some water. As a result, I am going to go on dying till my city receives an equitable distribution of potable waters from those two states which are Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) argues that out of the 1,005 MGDs consumed daily by residents in India’s capital as much as 864 MGDs was being used by middle class families and individuals.
