The Henley Passport Index

The passport index annually ranks countries based on the number of destinations their citizens can access without the need for visa authorisation. The Henley Passport Index has been tracking global freedoms in 227 countries and territories around the world for the past 19 years. The ranking is determined using data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA).

Christian Kaelin, chair of Henley and Partners, pointed out the growing disparity in global mobility between countries. The global average number of destinations people can travel to without a visa has almost doubled from 58 in 2006 to 111 in 2024. Despite this, the disparity in global mobility between the highest and lowest-ranked countries is now at its greatest extent, he further stated.

In total, 34 countries have the top 10 most powerful passports in the world.

India’s improved ranking allows citizens to travel visa-free to 58 countries, including popular travel destinations like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
