Here is why you should give Ayurveda a shot

1

Ayurveda is an alternative medicine system practiced in Bharat, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and even in the West, owing to the efforts of Baba Hari Das, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, etc. God Dhanvantri, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, is associated with Ayurveda. Prodigies like Charaka and Sushruta have also taken inspiration from the medicine system. Needless to say, Ayurveda is one of the many additions India has made to this world.

Let us look at benefits of Ayurveda

Reduction of stress and maintaining balance in body

In a stressed world, pushing deadlines and keeping up with societal expectations can take a toll. Yoga, massages, and Ayurvedic spas can be outlets for relaxation and the reduction of cortisol levels.

Manjistha herb, known for its blood purifying properties, reduces pigmentation, scars, and helps with melisma. Instead of opting for hard products like Tretinoin and Adapalene, Ayurveda can be a safer and relatively cheaper option.

Along with calming effects, Ayurveda is also known for improving cognitive development, focus, concentration, and retention. It can help students as well as professionals of any age.

Improving the quality of life

Ayurveda, by its definition, means knowledge of a long and healthy life. It includes surgical techniques, massages, healing open wounds, rejuvenation and tonics for strength, increasing the viability of semen, sexual pleasure, and also sexual problems.

Varied Diagnosis

Ayurveda has eight ways to diagnose: pulse, urine, stool, touch, tongue, speech, vision, and appearance. Such wide coverage makes it easier to practice even in far-flung and remote locations.

Recent Developments

The government has been promoting AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Yunani, Siddha, and Homeopathy). A separate ministry was formed for the same in 2014; the National Ayush Mission, wellness centers, and establishment of the Pharmacopoeia Commission of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy are a few steps taken in this direction.

The problems arise when a few individuals claim Ayurveda as omnipotent, reject modern medicine, and go as far as advertising and advising the public to do so. The recent judgment by the Supreme Court on the claim that Coronil is the first evidence-based treatment of COVID-19 is welcomed.

Taking ancient knowledge to a global stage doesn’t involve rejecting modernity. Ayurveda stands tall in its own place, and so do the developments of recent centuries.

“Ayurveda is the science of life that teaches us how to live in harmony with nature and the world around us,” Dr. Robert Svoboda.
