Israel versus Hezbollah: Cyprus under Hezbollah’s radar of threat

The leader of Hezbollah threatened Mediterranean country ‘Cyprus’ to get involved in the war if it helps Israel

The ongoing war between Palestine and Israel has taken various neighboring into flames, siding with two sides more and more countries in the Middle East are coming under conflict.  

The alley 

The Lebanese Political party and militant group Hezbollah’s one of the primary goals was the abolishment of the state of Israel since its founding year 1992. The ongoing offensive led it to attack Israel several times. 

The most recent one was on the festive of Eid-al-Adha on Monday when firing was exchanged between the foes escalating intensively which paved the pathway of ‘all-out war’ in these Middle Eastern countries.   

A day later on Wednesday, Hezbollah’s leader threatened to occupy the whole of northern Israel if Israel stepped up for ‘all-out action.’ Nasrallah also mentioned new weapons that would be utilized on the field. In contrast, he said that he does not want a full-fledged war against Israel but putting forward its stance in support of Hamas in Gaza.   

The group released drone surveillance footage of Haifa- A northern Israeli city, with site markings of important civilians and military spots; sent as a threat to Israel not to escalate the conflict with Gaza or a lethal attack on the northern city would start a second war with Lebanon. Nasrullah recognized this threat as psychological warfare against Israel.  

All-armed Israel  

In reply to the threat foreign minister of Israel said that the country is very close to changing the rules against Hezbollah and Lebanon. He even added that Hezbollah would be destroyed and the country would be severely hit, and he passed confirmation of operational plans in Lebanon being approved and validated. 

Mediterranean countries in the midst

A further step ahead into tensioning the situation, A televised address on Wednesday by Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said there will be no place safe from their missiles and their drones (Hezbollah’s) broadening the war.

A threat was made especially to Cyprus for the first time regarding the allowance of bases for Israeli military practice and the use of airports by Israel. Any help from Cyprus will be considered as involvement in the war against the resistance (Hezbollah) and will accordingly be dealt with. (According to the televised address). 

Cyprus’s rejection   

The EU Island country was in disbelief regarding the threat of the Hezbollah group and rejected the threat and claims made in the televised address by Nasrallah. Calling out the claims divorced from reality. However, Cyprus has traditionally let Israel use its territory, even the United Kingdom has its military bases in Cyprus.  

The Cypriot president declared its zero involvement in the conflict and characterized claims by Hezbollah as unpleasant. 

The European Union said standing by Cyprus that any threat against the member of the EU would be considered as against the whole union.   

The neutrality

Later, the Lebanese prime minister aided the situation by reaching out to Christodoulides (the Cypriot president) on Thursday, showing his gratitude towards the diplomacy exhibited by Cyprus.  Foreign minister as well as communicated with the Cypriot government regarding the maintenance of stability between the two countries. In the end, the Island Republic has decided to become the ‘pillar of peace’.
