HP and Google have collaborated to manufacture Chromebooks in India which will meet the need for emerging Digital teaching in the Educational sector of India. These Chromebooks will be manufactured at the Flex Faculty near Chennai. Chromebooks are one of the leading devices in K-12 education, helping over 50 million students and teachers in the world.

Chromebooks are a new type of portable computer which is designed to work efficiently and get things done easily and quickly. They run on ChromeOS which is an Operating System, it also provides cloud storage and built-in layers of security which prevents any breach of security or privacy.
Most chromebooks come with USB ports and MicroSD card slots to expand the storage. Moreover, working on applications such as MS-word, MS-excel is easy by accessing the Internet and using applications provided by Google. It is also suitable for viewing visual or audio files and creating, editing documents desired by the user.
Chromebooks are Better for Students
Chromebooks are better for students if He/She is using it primarily because Chromebooks are more basic compared to window-based devices and it can be easier for the kids to begin learning. Students can easily browse and obtain any information they seek, also the long lasting battery life of this device helps the students to use it for long hours without worrying or keeping track of charge.
Students can also save or transfer their created files or assignments easily on Google Drive for future need. Applications such as Google Meet and classroom improves the interaction between the students and teachers.
Chromebooks process with less RAM hence, the ability to produce enhanced graphics reduces which averts students from getting distracted and lessens the temptation to play games.
HP’s Collaboration with Google
On 28th September 2023, HP Inc announced its collaboration with Google to manufacture Chromebooks in India at Flex Facility near Chennai. According to the announcement, manufacturing of Chromebooks will begin from 2nd October 2023.HP has evidently manufactured and expanded its operations since August 2020.
Vickram Bedi, Senior Director of Personal Systems, HP India, said,“Manufacturing Chromebook laptops in India will allow Indian students to get easy access to affordable PCs. By further expanding our manufacturing operations, we continue to support the Make in India initiative of the government.”
HP’s vision is to meet the demand for Personal Computers(PCs) specially in the Educational Sector, this partnership between HP and Google will also support the “Make in India” programme. These affordable chromebooks will allow students to learn better and will enhance teaching. This high quality device will improve the connection between students and educators and also secure user’s data and information.
Scope of Chromebooks in India
Chromebooks arrived in India years ago but due to poor connectivity of the emerging market, Chromebooks weren’t adopted widely in India. Also the pricing levels of these Chromebooks added to this.
Now, as Digitalization and new methods of teaching are getting popular, Chromebooks are expected to flourish in the market.
Under the partnership between HP and Google, the Chromebooks will be manufactured in India which will ensure competitive and affordable prices, accelerating the adoption of technology in schools. Also, these devices will improve students’ skill and have access to many tools.
