Jaya Bachchan who’s a Rajya Sabha MP from Samajwadi Party entered into a war of words with Chairman and Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar which was later followed by opposition staging walkout from the Upper house of the parliament thus leading to Parliament session ending on fiery note.

The reason of uproar:

On 1st August, LOP and Congress MP became emotional as a BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari made a comment on parivarvaad with him demanding the remarks to be expunged.

The uproar had started when Jairam Ramesh had asked the Chairman to make things clear on how the house had ruled over the matter over BJP MP’s comments on Mallikarjun Kharge. He said that the matter had settled between the duo in the chamber and the BJP MP was ready to tender his apology.

Jaya Bachchan raised objection to the tone of the Chairman to the context of his statement in an exchange which happened between BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari and Congress MP and the leader of Upper House Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Chairman kept saying that the BJP MP was only appreciating Kharge and he didn’t mean any disrespect. The Opposition accused the Chairman of siding with the BJP MP. Jaya Bachchan while speaking in the Upper house while speaking to the VP, told that she was an artist and understood the expressions and body language, his tone was not right. She said that even though they are his colleagues, his tone is not acceptable.

The Chairman retorted strongly and while referring to Jaya, he said that he doesn’t want any schooling and said that the MP might be anybody, a celebrity but she has to understand the decorum. He also said that he doesn’t go by the script of others. He has his own script and isn’t operated by anyone else.

Even as the Opposition MPs countered on him calling Jaya a celebrity he told that she was a senior member of Parliament and the senior member of Parliament had a license to rundown the image of the Chair, to question his tone and tenor. He has to be in the mode of reaction to take care of the circumstances. He has the highest respect but to make that a habit of attacking his tone, language and tenor.

Even the VP and the Chairman continued to speak, the Opposition MPs which was led by Sonia Gandhi staged a walkout.

An Attempt to Destabilize the Country:

Even as the Opposition continued to walk-out, Dhankhar continued while referring to the opposition that he knew that they wanted to destabilize the country, he would not be the party to the house being converted. He also referred to Congress MP Kharge as an epicenter of disturbance.

As the house again convened, Dhankhar said that though he has no personal issue with anyone but he is hurt at the language which is used.

Jaya’s war of words with the Chair:

Earlier, RS MP Jaya Bachchan had objected when the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh had referred to her as Jaya Amitabh Bachchan. She said that calling her Jaya Bachchan was good enough. Even as the Deputy Chairman attempted to reason, citing that her name was listed that way, she retorted that this was an attempt so that women should be known by their spouse’s name as if they don’t have any achievements.

The Budget Session:

The Budget session of Parliament had started on 22nd July 2024 ended on 9th August.
