From June 2nd, 2024, Hyderabad, one of the most bustling metropolitan cities, assumed the status of the sole capital of Telangana, exclusively separating from its shared capital status with Andhra Pradesh. This decision came into effect according to the Reorganisation act 2014. The Reorganisation act 2014 states that “On and from the appointed day (June 2), Hyderabad in the existing State of Andhra Pradesh, shall be the common capital of the State of Telangana and the State of Andhra Pradesh for such period not exceeding ten years,”

Hyderabad is also a home to a few of the government buildings of the Andhra pradesh government which includes the Lake view guest house , the police building and the Hermitage building. Recently Telangana chief minister Mr Revanth Reddy sent an order to reclaim the ownership of the buildings after the 10 year period.

Why was Andhra Pradesh separated to form Telangana?

In 1956 , the state of Andhra Pradesh was formed by merging the Telangana region with the Andhra state. After emergence several disputes took place as the people faced neglect and discrimination on the basis of resource distribution and political representation. Protests took place for the separation of Telangana from the state of Andhra pradesh. One of the prominent figures who uplifted this separation was Mr K Chandrashekar Rao who formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Finally under the United Progressive Alliance, the government  decided to separate the state of Andhra Pradesh. In 2014 , the government introduced the telangana act to the lok sabha and also passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation act 2014. Thus on 2nd June 2014 making Telangana as an independent state separated from Andhra Pradesh after a formal bifurcation of the state .Mr K Chandrashekar Rao also was selected  as the first chief minister of the Telangana state.
