With his children Shakya and Akira from his previous wife Adhuna, Farhan Akhtar—who is married to Shibani Akhtar—has a tight relationship. His Instagram handle demonstrates how frequently Farhan and Shibani hang out with them. Regarding his and Adhuna’s divorce, the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag actor recently revealed that he feels incredibly bad for his kids Shakya and Akira.

Farhan said that before deciding to separate from Adhuna, he was reminded of his own parents’ separation

In a recent episode of the podcast Chapter 2, Farhan Akhtar was questioned by host Rhea Chakraborty about the influence of his parents’ divorces—Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, his first wife—on him. She went on to discuss whether or not it was tough for his children Shakya and Akira to deal with their mother Adhuna’s separation from him.

Farhan said that Shakya and Akira couldn’t have had it easy because they thought his relationship with Adhuna was “solid and perfect” before it became “fractured”. The actor-director acknowledged that his girls were somewhat resentful and angry about what had transpired. He continued by saying that they will eventually find comfort.

Farhan then said that he felt “tremendously guilty towards them” when he and Adhuna divorce.

“Aduna and I were divorced, but it had nothing to do with them, therefore I feel really bad for them. They are therefore, in a sense, emotional collateral damage “the Don 3 director added.

Shibani Akhtar, Farhan’s wife, was pleased with her family’s acceptance of her as his bride. Shibani shared that she has never felt like an outsider, referring to his family as “super-evolved and liberal”.

Shakya and Akira, Farhan’s daughters, have been raised to be great thinkers, the actress-singer claimed. She continued, “His daughters have accepted the family structure and are aware of the world and social environment around them, which makes their path easier.”

Shibani went on to say that she considers herself extremely fortunate and appreciative to the Akhtar family for allowing her to speak openly and honestly with Farhan’s daughters and other relatives.

For those who may not know, Farhan Akhtar dated Bollywood hairstylist Adhuna Bhabani for three years before getting married to her in 2000. The former couple, who were wed for 17 years, declared their divorce in 2017. In 2018, Farhan started dating VJ Shibani Dandekar. The pair married in 2022 in front of their loved ones.

Regarding his career, Farhan Akhtar acted in Rock On! for the first time and directed Dil Chahta Hai for the first time. As an actor, Farhan has appeared in films such as Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Karthik Calling Karthik, Toofan, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and more.

Farhan has also directed Don-The Chase Begins Again, Don 2-The King is Back, and Lakshya. He recently co-produced Madgoan Express, Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut, with Ritesh Sidhwani earlier this year.

In the future, the actor-director will also be releasing Jee Le Zara, starring Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, and Priyanka Chopra. Farhan’s next acting project is the military drama 120 Bahadur.
