IND-W vs AUS-W one-off Test match was played in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai from 21st December. After a thumping win against England in D Y Patil ground last week, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team was all set to show their classy form against Australia in the homeland. Indian women’s cricket team wrote history on 24th December by winning the first Test match against Australia by 8 wickets. With a thumping 8-wicket victory against Australia, Indian Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur became the second Indian woman to win multiple Test matches as captain after Mithali Raj.

DAY 1
On Thursday morning, 21st December Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. Australia began to receive shocks from the first over as the Australian opener P. Litchfield got run out without scoring a run leaving the team at 2-1 at the end of the first over. After that, E. Perry entered the ground but failed to contribute much as she got bowled on Pooja Vastrakar’s ball and returned to the dressing room with 4 runs. With a good partnership of 80 runs between B.L. Mooney and McGrath, Australia returned to the game when Sneh Rana took McGrath’s wicket after her well-deserved half-century.
With the wickets of B.L. Monney and Captain AJ Healy, the batting order of the Australian team collapsed and India managed to stop the Aussies at 219/10 in 77.4 overs. Pooja Vastrakar took 4 wickets, Sneh Rana took 3, and Deepti Sharma held 2 wickets.
DAY 2 and 3
Indian Women’s Cricket Team not only collapsed the Australian batting order but scored a massive score of 406 runs with a smashing attacking intent in 126.3 overs. Indian Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma managed to score 90 runs before the first fall of the wicket in the 16th wicket. With Smriti Mandhana’s 74 runs, Richa Ghosh’s 52 runs in her Test maiden, and Jemimah’s smashing 73, India managed to score 274 runs with 7 wickets down.
With a long partnership of 8th wicket, Pooja Vastrakar, and Deepti Sharma scored 47 runs and 78 runs respectively, and contributed to putting up the score of 402 at the fall of 9 wickets. India managed to score 406 runs with right-arm off-spinner A. Gardner taking 4 wickets. With Australia’s inning, the Umpire called off the match at AUS at 233/5 in 90 overs.
DAY 4
With Sneh Rana’s hat-trick, Australia lost 8 wickets at Sutherland’s wicket as keeper Yashika Bhatia took a smart catch. India managed to stop the Australian team at 261 runs. The Australian team put up 75 runs for the chase on the scoreboard for India to win.
After the lunch break on Sunday, S. Mandhana and S. Verma walked into the pavilion to mark the historic win. But with the early wicket of Shefali Verma at the 4th ball of the first over, India stood with 5/1 with 70 runs to chase. A successful partnership of 50 runs between Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana made it seamless for India to take the game further when Richa Ghosh lost her wicket in 15.2 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues along with Smriti Mandhana gave some finishing touches to the already one-sided win . India successfully chased 75 runs in 18.4 overs with the loss of 2 wickets.
India won a historic Test match against Australia
Indian Women’s Cricket Team recorded its maiden victory against Australia in Test format after a long wait of 28 years under the captaincy of fearless Harmanpreet Kaur in Mumbai on Sunday. The Indian skipper was seen kissing the trophy with utmost pride and glory. All-rounder Sneh Rana took 9 wickets in total and became The Player of the Match. This was India’s second Test victory back to back in last week after a record-breaking win against England in IND-W vs ENG-W one off test match on 17th December.
