The INDIA alliance which was in the opposition and gave a serious fight to BJP in the general elections, has shown its return by being at the top in the By-elections. The INDIA bloc won 10 seats whereas BJP that has returned to power for the third time only secured 2 seats in the by-elections.
Trinamool Congress, AAP, The Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) are all part of the INDIA bloc that put in candidates in the bypolls that were held on July 10, Wednesday in West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu.

Rise of Congress in Elections
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won two constituencies , Dehra and Nalagarh however Hamirpur was won by BJP. With this win in Himachal Pradesh, Congress came back to its original power of 40 MLA’s in the State.
In Uttarakhand, the party retained the Badrinath seat and the sitting MLA Rajendra Singh Bhandari who had rebelled to BJP was vanquished by Lakhpat Singh Butola from Congress.
Congress also took away Uttarakhand’s Manglaur constituency from Bahujan Samaj party; the by-elections were held after the passing away of the sitting MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari.
BJP in Madhya Pradesh
The BJP got some support from Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara constituency. Kamlesh Pratap Shah, who is now in the BJP won the seat against Congress Dheeran Sah Sukharam Das Invati.
In Tamil Nadu, DMK won the Vikravandi seat, Anniyur Siva won this against Pattali Makkal Katchi. The by-election was held after the death of MLA N. Pugazhenthi from DMK.
AAP’s Return
In Punjab, AAP won the Jalandhar West’s constituency by defeating sitting MLA Sheetal Angural. The sitting MLA was defeated by AAP’s Mohinder Bhagat who had also been her rival in 2022.
In Bihar, the Rupauli constituency, Shankar Singh pulled off a win from Janata Dal and Rashtriya Janata Dal.
The vote counting for the 13 assemblies began on Saturday morning. The Election was held on Wednesday for the assembly in West Bengal, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
