India has scripted history at the Asian Games 2023, achieving its best-ever medal tally in the tournament’s history. As of October 4, the Indian contingent has bagged a total of 73 medals, comprising 16 gold, 26 silver, and 31 bronze medals. This remarkable feat showcases India’s prowess on the international sporting stage.

Day 11 Highlights

On the eleventh day of the Asian Games, Indian athletes continued their stellar performance. Manju Rani and Ram Baboo clinched the bronze medal in the 35km race walk mixed team event, while Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravin Ojas Deotale secured gold in the Compound Archery Mixed Team event. Additionally, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh earned a bronze medal in squash mixed doubles, and boxer Parveen Hooda also secured a bronze medal.

Breaking Records: India’s Best-Ever Medal Tally

India’s achievement of 73 medals in the current edition of the Asian Games surpasses their previous best of 70 medals in the 2018 Jakarta Games. The Indian contingent has demonstrated exceptional skills and determination, marking this edition as their most successful outing in the tournament’s history.

India’s medal count is set to increase further with assured medals in the squash doubles event and additional medals expected from boxing. The shooting and athletics contingents have been pivotal contributors to India’s success, with 22 medals in shooting and 23 in athletics. While India currently stands at the fourth position in the medal tally, trailing behind China, Japan, and South Korea, the prospect of reaching the coveted 100-medal mark is not out of reach. The nation’s athletes, spanning across disciplines such as wrestling, hockey, cricket, badminton, archery, squash, boxing, kabaddi, and athletics, continue to compete, raising hopes for India to surpass the 90-medal mark in the remaining events.
