India’s PM to visit Moscow after 5 years: will discuss about Ukraine with Putin

After their last meeting in 2022 at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit at Samarkand, Uzbekistan; PM Narendra Modi is set to meet Russia’s President Vladmir Putin ever since the beginning of the war between Russia-Ukraine for the first time. In the previous meeting at the SCO Summit, the PM had focused Putin to end the war with Ukraine saying ‘today’s era is not for war’.

Ties that are towards Progress

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he looks forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with his friend Vladmir Putin and sharing his perspective on various regional and global issues. “ We seek to play a supportive role for a peaceful and a stable region. This visit shall also provide me with opportunity of meeting the vibrant Indian community in Russia.” he added.

After landing in Moscow, the Prime Minister interacted with children and people of the Indian community settled in Russia at the Carlton Hotel in Moscow. “A memorable welcome in Moscow! I thank the Indian community for their affection”, said the PM while sharing photos of the Indian diaspora.

Both the countries have had strong diplomatic relations with each other with over 77 years of diplomatic ties. In addition to this, the meeting also marks the 17th official meet of the PM to Russia in the past decade. 

Opposition’s Remark on India’s condition

We don’t object the PM going to Russia, as his visits are duly planned. However, at the same time, we have constantly requested the Parliament for his visit to Manipur. Why is the North-East being rejected? He should visit there”, said Congress General Secretary, Rajeev Shukla in a press conference at Chandigarh

The Prime minster is set to have discussions with Vladmir Putin about the war with Ukraine. Along with that, discussing about areas such as energy, culture, education, tourism, trade, security, investment, health and people-to-people exchanges will also be central agendas. 

Following his two-days and 26 hours visit to Russia, PM Modi is then set to visit Austria which shall the first ever visit of an Indian Prime Minister on the Austrian land in the past 40 years.
