BCCI introduces new payment incentive scheme to promote test cricket in India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently unveiled a groundbreaking reward scheme aimed at elevating the status of Test cricket and providing substantial financial incentives to Indian cricketers. Named the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme,’ this initiative underscores the BCCI’s steadfast commitment to bolstering the traditional format of the game.
Announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah via social media, the scheme marks a significant milestone in the organization’s efforts to ensure the financial growth and stability of its esteemed athletes. Effective from the 2022-23 season, the scheme offers additional rewards on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, initially set at INR 15 lakh.
Under the scheme’s provisions, players participating in at least 50 percent of Test matches in a season, amounting to five to six matches, stand to receive substantial incentives. Those included in the playing eleven will be rewarded with INR 30 lakh per match, while those not selected in the playing eleven will still receive INR 15 lakh per match.
Moreover, to be eligible for the scheme, players must participate in a minimum of four Test matches in a season. This criterion underscores the BCCI’s emphasis on consistent involvement and contribution to the longest format of the game.
By introducing the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme,’ the BCCI not only seeks to recognize the efforts of current players but also aims to inspire and motivate future generations to excel in Test cricket.
