India wins the India vs South Africa 2nd Test Match by seven wickets on the second day squaring the series tie by 1-1 on 4th January in Newlands, Cape Town. India lost the first match of the Test against South Africa in Centurion.

India vs South Africa 2nd Test began on 3rd January 5, 2024, in Newlands Ground, Cape Town. The first day of the 2nd  Test match broke several records as 23 wickets fell on the first day of the Test Match. The finishing touches were added by The Indian Cricket Team when Jasprit Bumrah loaded yet another 6 wicket haul against South Africa’s batting order.

The second day of the Test began with South Africa scoring 62/3 in 17 overs. Aiden Markram and David Bedingham were all set with their batting to make a good score but Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell led to one another shock in the first over of the day itself as D. Bedingham got caught out in 17.6 overs leaving South Africa at 66/4. The ultimate scene of Day 1 was repeated but the only difference was this time it was Jasprit Bumrah instead of Mohammad Siraj.

K. Verreynne, Marco Jansen, and Keshav Maharaj were sent back to Pavilion without scoring much for the team as the Indian pacer marked his 5-wicket haul. Aiden Markram scored a ton and helped South Africa to reach 162/8 in 31.4 overs before getting out by Mohammad Siraj. Later, South Africa’s right-arm fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada got caught out in Prasidh Krishna’s over as the bowl was clenched by Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma. With scoring 2 runs, Rabada headed back to the dressing room in 32.1 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah loads his 6-Wicket Haul

The last wicket of Lungi Ngidi in 36.5 overs marked yet another 6-wicket haul for the Indian Pacer Jasprit Bumrah. South Africa managed to score a total of 176 runs in 36.5 overs before getting all out. This was the ninth Five-wicket haul for Jasprit Bumrah in Test format. With this, Mukesh Kumar took 4 wickets in total including Day 1.

India had to chase the target of 79 runs in their second inning. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma collectively scored 44 runs before the fall of the first wicket in 5.4 overs. Jaiswal headed back to the pavilion after scoring 28 runs when Shubman Gill entered the show game.

After scoring 10 runs, he was bowled by Kagiso Rabada in 8.3 overs. India stood on 57/2 when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took the match further but Virat Kohli got out as the bowl ended up in the hands of Kyle Verreynne after making 12 runs. For the finishing touches, Shreyas Iyer came and hit a boundary for 4 runs in his 6th ball and ended the historic win in style.

India vs South Africa 2nd Test: India wins by 7 Wickets

India won the 2nd Test Match of the series by 7 wickets after successfully chasing the target of 79 runs. Dean Elgar was awarded the Player of the Series in his last Test Series while Mohammad Siraj won The Player of the Match for his exceptional 6/15 and 1/31 spell. This is a historic win for India as it is the shortest Test Match in terms of the balls used. The match ended in 107 overs.

This match also led to a tie between India and South Africa in the 2-match Test series. This match marked India’s first win the Cape Town. Captain Rohit Sharma became the second captain after M.S. Dhoni (2011-12) to tie a Test Match in the SENA country  The historic win also led India to top the table of No. 1 Test Team according to ICC. This marked the end of the long all-format series of India vs South Africa in South Africa.
