Basic Understanding of STEAG
The Indian Army is moving towards achieving a crucial development in its technological capabilities by setting up STEAG, Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group.
The elite tech unit is made to carry out research and for efficient evaluation of futuristic communication technologies like AI, artificial intelligence,5g, 6g, quantum computing and, machine learning. It is mainly built for the military applications and purposes.
Advantage of STEAG
As mentioned in an article in the Times of India, an officer said that in the coming times, countries that will have better communication and the ability to collect and connect diverse information will be in an advantageous position. The officer said that in times like these when technology is evolving rapidly in the battlefields, countries with better communication technology will have an edge over other rivals.
The objective of STEAG is to develop technologies such as wired and wireless systems, which include a wide spectrum of mobile communication, electronic exchange, electronic warfare systems, and software-defined radios.
The army officials stated the significance of STEAG, it will first technology of its kind, which will be able to develop cutting-edge solutions with the academia and industry by encouraging collaboration and partnership.
What will STEAG do?
STEAG will be capable of carrying out technical scouting, management of ICT solutions, evaluation, development and user interface by maintenance along with upgradation of technologies available at present.
The officer said that STEAG will help in reducing the gap between the Indian army, to that of industry and academia.
STEAG will focus on the following;
Indian Army officials said that the main focus of STEAG will be on key technology systems like that of AI, quantum technology, 5G and 6G. The Centre of Excellence might prove to turn the tables by encouraging and promoting self-reliance in communication technologies.
The officials said that STEAG will carry the essence of the Indian government’s initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Start-Up India. Along with this, as mentioned above STEAG, will help in reducing the gap between the Indian Army and that of academia and industry. This will also help in giving a clear message about India being technologically self-sufficient.
What will be the location of STEAG?
STEAG’s establishment is headed and led by a Colonel rank officer who is from the Corps of Signals. It is located in the national capital, Delhi.
The 21 signals group has been formed, there has been a re-organisation. A new and fresh mandate has been created for the Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group (STEAG) to develop new technologies in the domain of communication. Thus, is not completely a new formation. The already existing technologies have been analysed along with proper trials.
The main objective of STEAG is to explore, find, present and implement the most accurate and efficient technologies that will help in increasing and expanding the communication of the Indian army.
Operational Potential
In the present times, countries need to be extremely good with communication to gain operational achievements. The Indian Army said the countries that excel in communication technology will have better strategic gains.
STEAG shows the dedication and sincerity of the army to make technological developments. This will expand the capability of the armed forces in the digital domain. This will strengthen and guarantee efficient communication during warfare.
