Indian Badminton Coach Mathias Boe retires after the knocking defeat in Paris Olympics quarterfinals

Mathias Boe quits as a badminton coach at the age of 44. This Denmark born badminton player ,also a doubles ace , two times European champion and silver medalist in 2012 Olympics began his coaching career in 2021 after Chirag Shetty persuaded him to take up coaching. The Indian Badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty achieved numerous feat following 2021 under Joe’s tutelage, including Asian, Commonwealth Championship and Thomas Cup. They proved to be one of the best doubles team, and were a hope for scoring medals , however, they lost to the Malaysian duo Aaron and Chia after a staggering quarterfinal of 21-13, 14-21, 16-21.This pair gave a marvelous and dominant performance against the Malaysian’s unseeded Sooh Woi Yik and Chia Aaron the opening set with 21-13, followed by 21-14 in second seat, in the final and third set was a sinking ship for the Indian duo losing the last set with 16-21, and missing the ticket to the finals, ultimately.

Boe coached men’s double teams, Satvik-Chirag duo in 2020 Tokyo Olympics, however they failed to qualify in the quarterfinals. Despite this the SatChi duo soared high ranking in the world’s best badminton duos, winning the Commonwealth Game, Thomas Cup, Asian Championship and French Open. For sure, Mathias Boe was a bliss for the the Indian Badminton team.

“For me, my coaching days ends here, I’m not going to continue in India or anywhere else, for now at least. I have spent too much time in a badminton hall and it’s also pretty stressful to be a coach, I’m a tired old man,” the 44-year-old from Denmark wrote on his Instagram account.

The knockout from the Paris Olympics quarterfinals was astounding enough, but Boe has no regrets and he is proud of the boys reaching up to quarter final. He acknowledged the conducive efforts of the lads, and he felt immensely grateful to train them. “You have everything to be proud of, how hard you have worked in this Olympics camp, battling injuries, even taken injections to reduce the pain, that is dedication, that is passion and that is a lot of Heart,” he wrote, thanking Sports Authority of India and Badminton Association of India, for giving them a golden opportunity in the field of badminton as a coach.

Mathias Boe is married to Bollywood actress Tapsee Pannu who recently posted on his birthday. He had quit his coaching career and has no interest joining back badminton team of India or any other country, for that matter. He said that he is looking forward to his retirement and enjoying his life ahead as time lies.
