The world witnessed strengthening of ties between India and Mauritius as India’s Foreign Minister attended the inaugural ceremony of nation’s first Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Mauritius.
India-Mauritius Relations
The Indo-Mauritius relations date back to 1730s, and the formal diplomatic relations were established in 1948, post New Delhi’s independence, but to be noted that the ties bide before Mauritius was declared an independent state. According to report, more than 68% of Mauritian diaspora is of Indian origin, thus connecting dots with cultural ethnicity as well.
There is an embassy of Mauritius at New Delhi and Mauritius has it at Port Louis. Both the countries have cooperated in terms of piracy issue which has been a major concern in the Indian Ocean region. They also have a common ground when it comes to putting forth a stance against terrorism. Mauritius one of the countries with which India has had a stable relations along the years.
Jan Aushadhi Kendra inaugural at Mauritius
S. Jaishankar inaugurated India’s foremost Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius on Wednesday. Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravin Kumar Jugnauth also attended the ceremony. Jan Aushadhi Kendra consists of cost-efficient, Indian origin medicines for betterment and well-being of the Mauritius population. This also highlights the production exchange between the two neighboring countries. Jaishankar said, “Delighted to inaugurate along with Prime Minister @KumarJugnauth the first overseas Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Mauritius.”
EAM also inaugurated a secondary healthcare center for around 16,000 living in Grand Bois village in Mauritius. The two day visit included various discussions and deliberations regarding the upcoming projects as well as international positions of the two countries. There were talks between the representations regarding PM Narendra Modi’s initiative for installing the project in Mauritius. It was fulfilling the made promise earlier this year, said FM Jaishankar. He also spoke about health as a universal priority to be maintained by everyone as well as a right to be enjoyed by people of the state.
