They both emphasised upon the necessity to protect shipping and maritime corridor to resume economical growth by curbing potential attacks from Iranian ally Houthi rebels in Yemen. Prime Minister Modi expressed in social media about his communication with Israeli leader in order to keep public aware regarding India’s position in the crisis prone region. Both leaders stressed upon the need of protecting ‘Bab el-Mandeb Strait’ for free and seamless cargo movements between countries. As this route is been challenged by Houthi rebellions causing loss and damage to the international trade-transaction.

India and Israel both have suffered heavily from such menace and impacting their economy to great extent.International news agency Al Jazeera stated that the Iranian ally Houthis hit multiple ship vessels last weeks in Red sea and they are explicitly warning against sailing through the area. They have announced a protest against Israel for its military interference in Gaza by harming sea vessels loaded with oil, gas and food grains. Thereby causing a grave threat to the movement of trade and commerce and affecting food security in international arena.

Since Israel is India’s fourth largest destination of petroleum and allied exports, increasing geopolitical risk in Middle Eastern area posing an impeccable damage for a developing country like India. A constant rise in crude oil price could heighten domestic inflation and may lead to increase interest rate. Moreover, exports from India to Israel consists of precious stones-metals, chemical and fertilizers, minerals, defence machinery, electronic machinery and several equipment.Hence, a constant war and turbulence are an equal threat to both countries.

Meanwhile, both the leaders reiterated about bringing labourers from India to Israel stranded in Gaza. As Israel has been resuming its military offensive in Gaza as an act of retaliation for Hama’s sudden attack on Israel. On October 7. So far Hamas killed estimated 1200 people in Israel and kidnapped few hundreds of innocents and released few of them later. Similarly, Israel too killed nearly 17000 people during its retaliation.

However, in such horrific rhetoric actions, only innocent civilians are suffering most and affecting global economy immensely. Amidst chaotic prevalence, Modi’s push for dialogue and diplomacy could shed some light in bringing normalcy to the volatile region.
