IndiGo, which is India’s largest domestic airline, completed 18 years of its formation this week, and this special day was marked with a series of announcements by the aviation company.

IndiGo Stretch

The company has come up with a new business class product for its customers known as “IndiGo Stretch.” This business class traveling facility will run for 12 routes including Chennai, Bangalore, etc. This facility will be made available between metros in the beginning. It is expected to be rolled out by mid November. The customers can avail the booking of this facility from today, that is the 6th of August, 2024. The facility begins at ₹18,018.

Shift in the no-frill policy

The introduction of this new facility by IndiGo marks a major shift in the company policies, as now the airline also caters to various premium travelers. Earlier the airline, followed a ‘no-frill model’, which implied that it would pack more passengers into dense cabins and charge for food; they also used priority boarding and charging for seat facility, which made it an extremely successful airline and helped it capture a major stake of almost 61% in the Indian aviation market.

But Why This Shift In Policy?

The reason IndiGo chose to enter the premium market too, is to be able to cater to the needs of a plethora of different passengers and expand its passenger base. They would be able to provide every customer with exactly what they want.

What Does The Business Class Hold?

The CEO of IndiGo, Pieter Elbers, explained the structure and the facilities of the business class. It would include 2 couple style seats, and wide premium leg-space. They will have healthy food options from the Oberoi Catering Services Group. The seats will also have adjustable headrest and neck supports along with a recliner for the passengers’ comfort. The business class seats will also have an electronic device holder, and a three-in universal power outlet.

IndiGo BluChip Policy

Along with this, another significant announcement by the company dealt with the customer loyalty program, ‘IndiGo BluChip.’ This program aims to recognize and benefit the frequent fliers of the airline. They would earn points everyone they travel and they can use these to access particular seats, meals, etc. These points wouldn’t have an expiration once a customer becomes a part of this program.
