IPL 2024 auction was held on 19th December 2023 i.e. on Tuesday in the Coca Cola Arena, Dubai. The auction witnessed some eye-widening bids as Mitchell Starc was sold to KKR for 24.75 crores making the record of the highest bid followed by 2023 World Cup winning Captain Pat Cummins with 20.5 crores in Sunrises Hyderabad in the IPL auctions breaching England’s Sam Curran record of INR 18 crores.
10 teams with a total budget of INR 262.95 crores ( USD 31.58 million approx) sat for the first overseas IPL 2024 auction in Dubai with Gujarat Titans holding the maximum money in their purse of INR 38.1 crores and Kolkata Knight Riders with maximum slots to fill. The auction experienced a total no. of 333 players, out of which 214 were Indians and 116 were overseas players. After the announcement of retained and traded players, a total of 77 slots were to be filled. With 12 slots to fill, KKR had a budget of 32.7 crores.
Mitchell Starc tops the list with 24.75 crores in IPL 2024 auction
A total of 72 players were sold under the IPL 2024 auction with an expenditure of 230.45 crores. The highest bid was struck by KKR for Mitchell Starc surpassing his Australian Captain Pat Cummins for 24.75 crores. Uncapped Indian cricket players Sameer Rizvi and Shivam Dubey got an overwhelming response as Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals picked them for INR 8.4 crores and 5.8 crores respectively. The right-arm fast baller, Umesh Yadav was sealed by GT for INR 5.8 crores along with Azmatullah Omarzai for INR 50 lakhs to be led by No. 1 ODI player Shubman Gill who is going to lead the Gujarat Titans from IPL 2024.Jaydev Unadkat was sold SRH for INR 1.6 crores.
Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur to play in yellow jersey
Young New Zealand talent Rachin Ravindra, who impressed everyone with his spectacular World Cup debut will be mentored under the captaincy of Jersey No. 7, MS Dhoni as Chennai Super Kings sealed him for INR 1.8 crores along with Daryl Mitchell with INR 14 crores. Shardul Thakur will also be seen performing in the yellow jersey as CSK ceased him for 2 crores. Australian Captain Pat Cummins, match-changing player of WC finals Travis Head, and Wanindu Hasaranga were sold to Sunrises Hyderabad for INR 20.5 crores, 6.8 crores, and 1.5 crores respectively. Rowman Powell and Rilee Rossouw were sold to Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings for INR 7.4 crores and 8 crores respectively.
Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Hazelwood and Shamsi went unsold
To everyone’s surprise, mega players like Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Josh Hazelwood, and Tabraiz Shamsi went unsold. Gerald Coetzee, a 23 year-old South African right-arm pacer, will be seen in the blue jersey along with Dilshan Madushanka and Atkinson as Mumbai Indian sealed them for INR 5 crores, 4.8 crores and 1 crore respectively.
Arshin Kulkarni is all set to debut in IPL 2024
Emerging Indian Talent, Arshin Kulkarni who with his spectacular performance in U19 Asia Cup was ceased by Lucknow Super Giants. After getting hit by 5 sixes in a single over from KKR’s Rinku Singh, Yash Dayal was sealed by RCB for 5 crores. Alzarri Joseph was also bought by RCB with the winning bid of INR 11.5 crores. Shahrukh Khan was snapped by GT for INR 7.4 crores. Gujarat Titans’s highest bid is upon Spencer Johnson for INR 10 crores.
