Iran May Strike Israel Within 48 hours, Blinken alerts G7 on Imminent Threat

The assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, hours after the shooting of Hezbollah chief Faud Shukr in Beirut has fueled the Iranian calls to avenge Israel.

According to a report in The Times of Israel, Iran backed Hezbollah on Saturday (Aug 3) launched dozens of rockets on Moshav Beit Hillel in Israel injuring several civilians. This comes as a retaliatory attack to Israeli strikes in Bierut killing Faud Shukr, a senior military commander from Hezbollah.

As tensions escalate in the Middle East region, the fear of an all-front war against Israel seems inevitable. According to a report in Axis, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned his counterparts from the G7 countries that Iran could launch an attack on Israel within the next 24-48 hours.

In an effort to reduce the likelihood of a full-scale conflict in the volatile region of Middle East, Blinken organized a conference call with US allies to generate “last-minute diplomatic pressure on Iran and Hezbollah.”

Meanwhile, the G7 Ministers released a statement expressing ‘deep concern’ over the unfolding situation –

“We are deeply concerned over the heightened tensions in the Middle East which threatens to ignite a broader conflict in the region,” read the statement.

“We urge all involved parties to refrain from perpetuating the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, to lower tensions and engage constructively towards de-escalation. No country or nation stands to gain from further escalation in the Middle East,” it added.

Amid fears of regional war US President Joe Biden hoped that Iran would “stand down” despite its threats to Israel. The Pentagon mentioned that it is bolstering its presence in the Middle East region in order to protect US Army personnel and to defend Israel.

Isarel Prepares for Preemptive Strike

Israel is preparing for possible military action against its archrival Iran, amid fears of a reprisal attack following the assassination of the Hamas leader in Tehran.

According to Israeli reports, the situation in the region remains turbulent following the deaths of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. Top government and security officials in Israel are in a meeting to discuss alternatives in reaction to the uncertainties surrounding Iran and its proxies, according to the Times of Israel.

The strike would only be authorised if there is conclusive evidence that Israel was all cocked and loaded to engage in this brawl. Israel has warned its adversaries that they “would pay a high price” for any “aggression”.

“Israel is at a very high level of preparation for any scenario, both defensive and offensive,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned in a statement.

Guidelines for overseas citizens in Israel

The US Embassy in Beirut has asked its citizens to immediately leave Lebanon on “any ticket available”, warning that the regional situation “could deteriorate rapidly.”

Several countries, including Jordan, France, Canada and India, have issued similar advisories for their people to leave Lebanon as soon as possible.

The war in Gaza that started last year has caused widespread destruction and swiped out almost the entire population of the territory, the UN said on Friday.
