Is Kim Kardashian the ultimate queen of bodycon?

0
Kim Kardashian is many things, but what she’s not is boring. She has always been a confident and bold lady, especially when it comes to fashion.

The Met Gala is a fancy event where big-name celebrities show up in extravagant outfits, often transforming into characters for the night. However, for Kim Kardashian, it’s more about sticking to her usual style. Instead of going all-out, she tends to wear outfits that highlight her love for tight, figure-hugging, aka bodycon dresses. At the Gala, she’s known for rocking looks that accentuate her curves. It’s less about playing a character and more about embracing her signature bodycon style.

From her Givenchy maternity gown to her ever so controversial Marilyn Monroe dress, let’s take a look back at Kardashian’s Met Gala styles over the years.

In 2013, Kim Kardashian attended her first Met Gala. Wearing a snug floral dress by Givenchy, with a high neck, long sleeves, and matching gloves and shoes, she had presented herself at the red carpet while pregnant with her first child, North West. However, many people made fun of her dress online, which made her very upset. She later revealed to Vogue Magazine that she cried on her way home. Even though it caused her distress, her dress became very well-known, and people still talk about it as a significant fashion moment.

In 2015, for the theme “China: Through the Looking Glass”, Kim Kardashian wore a see-through dress by Roberto Cavalli. It was covered in shiny crystals and had feathers on it. She said she got the idea from the famous singer, Cher. Kim even met Cher at the event and told her that a photo of Cher from a past Met Gala inspired her dress.

At the 2017 Met Gala, with “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” as the theme, Kim Kardashian chose a straightforward look, wearing an off-the-shoulder corset dress by Vivienne Westwood Couture. She kept her accessories minimal. This decision came after she was robbed in Paris a few months earlier. Kim had mentioned on Ellen DeGeneres’ show that she was unsure about wearing real jewellery again after the frightening incident.

Kim Kardashian embraced ’90s glamour at the Met Gala by wearing a specially made Versace dress. The dress was made of chainmail and had crosses embroidered on it, fitting with the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”. She accessorised with two cross necklaces, wore very long hair extensions, and her makeup was inspired by Cleopatra, with a smoky blue cat-eye and exaggerated lips.

In 2019, Kim Kardashian embraced the “camp” theme at the Met Gala by wearing a custom-made outfit by Thierry Mugler. The dress, crafted from silk organza and adorned with dripping crystals, was inspired by the wet shirtdress worn by Sophia Loren in “Boy on a Dolphin.” Underneath, she wore a corset by Mr. Pearl to cinch her waist even more. Kim admitted that wearing the corset was challenging, saying it left indentations and caused her extreme discomfort. To complement her look, she styled her hair to look wet, had shimmering makeup, and even had water droplets painted on her nails.

In 2021, at the Met Gala themed “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” Kim Kardashian grabbed headlines once more with her striking all-black ensemble by Balenciaga. The custom-made outfit covered her completely from head to toe. She wore a long-sleeve turtleneck bodysuit beneath an oversized T-shirt dress with a flowing train. Completing the look were jersey boots, gloves, and a mask that concealed her face and head, although she still wore a full face of makeup underneath.

7. Marilyn Monroe Dress at Met Gala, 2022

In 2022, for the theme “Gilded Glamour”, Kardashian wore the original dress of the famous actress, Marilyn Monroe. The late actress had worn it in 1962, when she attended the birthday of President John F. Kennedy. Kim mentioned that she had to lose 16 lbs to fit into the dress.
