Japan might get hit by a major earthquake, the warning bell has been rung. Nothing can prepare people for this disaster.
The earthquake that hit the southern part of Japan on Thursday seemed to be just the warning sign of another intensive and destructive natural disaster.
The 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Thursday didn’t cause any major hazard, along with a tsunami warning that was promptly taken back. However, the concern arose when a warning that had never been issued before came through right after this earthquake.
The prime minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida called off his trip to Central Asia that was planned for a summit to spend the next week in the country. After Japan’s Meteorological Agency, revealed that there’s an amplified chance of a “major earthquake”.
The Predictions
For many people in Japan it’s the horror folk tale coming true, this ‘big one’ occupies people’s minds. This is a once-in-a-century earthquake the people in Japan have been warned about throughout the years.
Predictions are made, following the worst-case scenario, more than 300,000 people could be killed in the quake, and a wave of water as high as 30 meters (100 feet) could potentially strike an East Asian nation’s Pacific coast.
Masayo Oshio, who is a resident of Yokohama, situated in southern Tokyo, declared it a frightening experience. She stated that they know that the forecast of earthquakes doesn’t happen, “we have been told for so long that the big one is coming one day”. However, she admitted that it didn’t seem plausible for her.
The big one is very overwhelming for sure. But can it be predicted or even forecasted about an earthquake?
The Earthquake Worry of Japan
Japanese countries where earthquakes are prevalent. Needless to say, Japanese citizens are prone to earthquakes. The location of Japan on the Ring of Fire is one of the prevalent reasons for these frequent earthquakes. They annually receive over 1500 earthquakes. People thoroughly crafted their lives amidst this natural disaster.
While most earthquake brings minor harm, however, some earthquakes like the 9.0 magnitude cause severe nationwide injury. The earthquake that occurred in 2011, caused a tsunami to hit the northeastern coastal area of Japan. Japan mourned the loss of 18000 people.
However, the direst outcome the officials are fearsome about is the earthquake might hit the densely populated area in the southern part of Japan. The casualties of this earthquake might turn into a massive disastrous stage. Several fatal outcomes have already resulted from the earthquakes that have struck Japan’s Pacific Coastal side, the Nankai Trough area with high seismic activity. The second biggest earthquake recorded in Japan took place in 1707, it was followed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Fuji.
