Jay Shah is elected President of the Asian Cricket Council ‘unanimously’ for the third consecutive year. On Wednesday, January 31, Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was named president of the Asian Cricket Council for a third term. Shammi Silva, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket, made Shah’s extension suggestion for the second time. At the ACC’s annual general meeting in Bali, every member of the organization supported the nomination without exception.
About Shah and his career
Jay Amitbhai Shah is an Indian businessman and cricket administrator. His father, Amit Shah, is the Minister of Home Affairs in India. He was named Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board of Control (BCCI) in 2019. He was chosen as the youngest of the five office bearers to serve as the secretary of BCCI for a tenure of one and a half years the following month. The BCCI chose Shah in December 2019 to represent the organization at upcoming CEC meetings of the International Cricket Council. In January 2021, Shah was elected President of the Asian Cricket Council.
Reappointment as ACC president
Shah conveyed his satisfaction over being reappointed and thanked the board members for having faith in him to perform the job. Additionally, he disclosed his commitment to promoting cricket in Asian nations. The decision was made during the ACC’s annual general meeting, which was held in Bali, although Shah will hold the top spot for a record-breaking third time. Jay Shah will remain the ACC Chairman for the time being, despite reports that he was also competing for the position of ICC Chairman. That election is scheduled for November.
Shah’s achievements and commitment
First appointed in January 2021, Jay Shah succeeded Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan in the role. In 2022 and 2023, the Asia Cup was successfully held in T20 and ODI formats by ACC under his leadership. Silva also stated that The ACC has been crucial in identifying and developing fresh talent in cricketing superpowers like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka under Shah’s direction. He also discussed his dedication to promoting cricket in Asian nations.

Alongside Shammi Silva, the vice-president of the ACC and chairman of Oman Cricket, Pankaj Khimji, also praised Jay Shah for the expansion of the game in Asia since he assumed the role and congratulated him on his extended tenure. Khimji said that the stakeholders now understand the benefits of funding the ACC’s tournaments, and I give him credit for this significant change that will continue to drive the game’s expansion in the area.

Jay Shah said that he appreciates the ACC Board’s ongoing faith in him. He remarks that the board must continue to be dedicated to making sure that the sport develops holistically, with an emphasis on areas where it is still in its early stages. ACC is dedicated to developing cricket throughout Asia. Both the ODI format in 2023 and the Asia Cup T20 format in 2022 were successfully organized by ACC President Jay Shah.
Alongside this, the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled for September, has been announced by the ACC. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and two qualifying teams will be competing.
