Jonita Gandhi, the renowned singer behind chart-toppers like “Gilehriyaan” and “What Jhumka?,” is set to open for one of her favourite artists, English pop sensation Dua Lipa, in Mumbai on November 30. Gandhi is thrilled about the opportunity, describing it as a dream come true to share the stage with the pop star she admires.
Excited to Share the Stage with a Pop Icon
Gandhi shared her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m thrilled to be opening for one of my favorite artists. I’m a big fan of Dua Lipa’s music.” She reminisced about the first time she heard Lipa’s hit “New Rules” back in 2017, noting its profound impact on her. At 34, with popular tracks like “Soni Soni” from Ishq Vishk Rebound under her belt, Gandhi is eager to showcase her own music before Dua Lipa graces the stage.
While Gandhi hasn’t finalized her setlist yet, she assured fans that she plans to perform as many of her songs as possible. “I have so much in store,” she shared, hinting at a performance filled with her signature style and energy.
International Excitement for Indian Artists
Gandhi also reflected on the excitement surrounding international artists visiting India, with big names like Dua Lipa, Alan Walker, and Bryan Adams performing this year. When asked about the reception of Indian artists abroad, Gandhi was quick to affirm that the enthusiasm is mutual. “When people live geographically far away from their favourite artists, it adds to the hype of them being in your city to perform,” she said, noting the warm reception she received during her recent performances in Colombo and the United States.
Looking Ahead
Gandhi called this period an “exciting phase” in her career, not just because of her musical endeavours but also her interest in acting. While her anticipated acting debut was initially slated for 2021, Gandhi revealed that there are no films on the horizon yet. However, she remains open to exploring acting opportunities shortly.
As Gandhi prepares to open for Dua Lipa, fans can expect an electrifying performance that showcases her talent and passion for music.
