Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday, took to her X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday to confirm that the script for a movie based on the life of Bilkis Bano is ready.  She tweeted this in response to a user asking the Queen actress if she was interested in telling Bilkis Bano’s story, the lady who fought against the corrupt system to get justice. The user wrote to the actress that her passion for women’s empowerment is inspiring and that she will be making such a powerful movie. According to him, with this movie, she can show the world how a government and some terrorist outfits unleashed terror on a community

The actress wrote that she wanted to cover that story, and she has been working on and researching it for three years now. However, popular OTT giants like Netflix, Amazon, and JioCinema rejected the idea, stating that they don’t do such politically motivated movies.  She further added that JioCinema said they wouldn’t work with Kangana due to her close ties with the BJP.  Zee, another major OTT player, is also unavailable due to its ongoing merger with Sony. She expressed that she had no options left.

Kangana Ranaut calls out JioCinema

She publicly called out JioCinema’s content head, Sohbha Sant, who happened to tell her producers of Noti Binodini to replace her. She kept this as a condition to give a green signal to the project. The project was dropped despite the producer and director trying their best to convince. She also shared that she was asked to never support the BJP or fight in the elections and to give this declaration in writing if she wanted them to approve the project.

Netizens were shocked to read the series of tweets by the actress. One user wrote that the OTT giant, which is owned by the richest man in the country and is allegedly close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was allegedly against Ms. Ranaut for supporting the BJP.

The Padma Shri actress also expressed that she feels demotivated to witness misogynist movies like Animal pulling the audience to the theatres while her film Tejas tanked at the box office. She criticized the recent trend of the audience preferring movies that perpetuate violence against women.

Supreme court Verdict

On January 8th, the Supreme Court quashed an order that granted remission to 11 convicts and sent them back to jail in the 2002 gang rape case. The court stated that the state government cannot invoke powers under Article 142 to let 11 rapists be free.

As a part of the celebration of”Azadii Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the central government issued guidelines to states to grant a special remission to prisoners who have completed at half of their sentence.  These men walked out free on August 15th 2022, after the Gujarat government used the 1992 remission policy to set them free. They had just completed 15 years behind the bar.

The court also stated that the use of remission by the Gujarat government is a abuse of power and usurpation of power.
