In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, actress-politician Kangana Ranaut shared her thoughts on the term ‘alpha male,’ which has gained significant attention following the success of the 2023 film Animal. While Kangana acknowledged that the term “sounds like a great idea,” she expressed concerns about its superficial application. She emphasized that people often use the term without fully understanding its true essence, merely focusing on the surface level.

Exploitation of the ‘Alpha Male’ Concept in Society

Kangana compared modern interpretations of the ‘alpha male’ concept and historical figures from Indian mythology. She mentioned that Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Arjun, Bhishma Pitamaha, and Karna were all examples of true ‘alpha males.’ However, she noted that contemporary society often fails to appreciate their virtues, such as sacrifice, mercy, and austerity. According to Kangana, people misuse the term to justify harmful behaviour instead of embodying these qualities.

The actress also criticized the way some individuals exploit the ‘alpha male’ label to engage in unethical behaviour. She stated, “People resort to becoming alpha males to fool others with their wrong deeds. Such actions might make people enjoy for some time, but they will fall face down. When you don’t have an understanding of something, you want to exploit that… If you are an alpha male then why are you being Raavan? Be Ram.”

Kangana candidly addressed the issue of sexism in Bollywood, highlighting how films often depict violence, hooliganism, and other negative behaviors that mislead and adversely impact the youth. She stressed that such portrayals carry consequences and that those responsible must be held accountable. When questioned directly about sexism in the industry, Kangana’s response was unmistakable: “Of course there is.”

Kangana’s Upcoming Film

Kangana Ranaut is set to appear in her next project, Emergency, a film that she has both directed and stars in. The movie, which also features actors like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik, is based on the period of the Emergency imposed in India in 1975. Kangana will portray the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, marking another significant role in her acting career.
