Mpox :- An arousing health concern
Kerala man in his 30’s, tested positive for Mpox after returning from UAE. The case is reportedly from Malappuram district of Kerala. In response to the symptoms, the patient was admitted to the Manjeri Medical College. Ms. Veena George, the state health minister of Kerala disclosed about the case via a Facebook post. People who have been in contact with the man have been said to be in isolation for 3 weeks.
1. 1st Case of monkeypox from Thiruvananthapuram –
The first case of monkeypox was identified in the Thiruvananthapuram region of Kerala. The medical reports of the infectant were sent to The National Institute of Virology, Pune where the doctors confirmed Mpox disease. Approx 20 people were appealed to stay isolated for 21 days. A point to be noted here is that in both the Mpox cases the patients came back from UAE.
The state government of kerala has established rapid response teams and implemented initiatives to curb the spread of Mpox, at the same time ensuring medical support for those affected. Guidelines for the virus are released by the World Health Organisation and the ministry of health. Ms. Veena George has requested the citizens to take the measures of isolation if any sign of Mpox is noticed by them. The potential medical patients with some symptoms of the disease must go with a precautionary test of Mpox,said doctors and many health authorities across India.
2. What is Mpox and What are its symptoms ?
Monkeypox virus leads to the disease of monkeypox. The virus belongs to the similar family from which smallpox and chickenpox belong. Both animals and humans are prone to monkeypox. The transmission can occur from animals to humans can occur by bites and scrapes and animal eating and from human to human it can be transmitted through contact with contaminated objects (including sharing clothes and linen). If detected at the time of pregnancy it can be transmitted to the newborn.
Mpox can last from 2 to 4 weeks. and the symptoms of monkeypox include – sore throat, rashes on palm face and swollen lymph, joint pain headache, back pain,
The preventive measures are recommended by WHO are as follows ➖
1.A Bath with warm water
2. Gargle with salted water
3. Sanitize and wash hands in good intervals of time.
4. Be in isolation while contacting the doctors through calls or texts in case if anyone notices the symptoms.
The above prevention techniques are listed down by the health authorities. Adverse effects can be seen if the awareness about the precautions and symptoms are not taken seriously. The state of kerala has also started working on to prevent the spread of the disease in the area.
