2024 is a thrilling year for sports fans across the world. From Wimbledon to the ICC T20 World Cup and from the SAFF championship to the Olympics, 10 exciting sporting events that are going to make the fans stick onto their TV screens while supporting their favorite players and teams worldwide.
1. Formula One World Championship
The FIA Formula One World Championship 2024 is going to begin in March 2 and will end in December 8. The motor racing competition for F1 Cars will contest 24 grand prix all around the world. The opening sprint will be in Saudi Arabia and then in countries like China, Brazil, Austria, Austin, Maimi, and Qatar.
2. India vs England Five Test Series
The India vs England Men’s Five Test series will begin in January and end in March. The Five-match Test Series will be played in Hyderabad, Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamshala. All the major home grounds in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Bangalore are surprisingly overlooked. The first Test match is in Hyderabad from 25- 29 January followed by the second match in Vizag from February 2-6. The third Test Match will be played in Rajkot from February 15 to 19. The Fourth and Fifth Test Match will be played in Ranchi and Dharamshala from February 23 to 27 and March 7 to 11 respectively. Indian Cricket Team is all set to set the stage on fire.
3. AFC Asian Cup
The 18th Edition of the prestigious AFC Asian Cup is going to be held in Qatar from the 12th of January to the 10th of February, 2024. The Asian Football fans are going to enthral themselves as India and Qatar are expected to have a thrilling rivalry against each other in the knock-out matches for the Cup. 24 National Teams are going to participate in the tournament with full excitement and spirit. Countries like Thailand, Syria, UAE, Qatar, Australia, Hongkong, Japan, India, Jordan, Indonesia, and Malaysia are going to compete against each other including other teams.
4. Wimbledon
The 2024 Championship will begin on July 1 and will end on the 14th of June in London. Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s singles finals in 2023 while Marketa Vondrousova won the singles in women’s. Two-time Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova is going to miss this season ahead of her pregnancy. This season may mark as a farewell championship for the two-time winner Andy Murray. 5. Olympics 2024
The most exciting Multi Sports event of 2024 will begin on the 26th of July and will end on the 11th of August. Paris is all set to host the 2024 Olympics as it is the first time in the last 12 years that a European country is hosting the world Championship after London in 2012. With a total of 32 sports, 137 countries are going to compete against each other in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
6.Paralympics
The Paris Paralympics is going to be held from August 28 to September 8 with 22 sports and over 4,400 athletes around the span of the 11-day-long Championship. The Multi-sports Championship will be played between 84 countries. Wheelchair Rugby will be the first sport of the championship.
7. Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
The Ninth Edition of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup is going to begin from the 4th of June to the 30th of June. With a total of 20 Teams, the T20 World Cup will be played in the USA and is hosted by West Indies and USA. Canada, Uganda, and the United States have qualified for the World Cup for the first time. India, England, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will have tough competition between each other.
8. Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
With Australia being the defending champions, the 9th Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by Bangladesh from September to October 2024. With 10 teams playing against each other, Australia has a strong significance over the Cup as the 6-time winning team. India and South Africa along with England are all set to clench their fists. India has reached the finals twice but has yet to win the one.
9. England vs West Indies Test series
With a total of 17 Test matches in 2024, England is all set to play against Australia in the Three-Match Test Series. The Test Series between England and West Indies will begin from July 10th-14th in Lord’s Ground, London. The Second Test match will be played in Trent Bridge, Nottingham from 18-22 July followed by the third match of the series from 26-30 July in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
10. Weightlifting World Championship
Bahrain is going to host the World Weightlifting Championship for the first time. Athletes will compete against each other in 20 different weight categories, of which 10 are for men and 10 are for women. China was the country with the most medals( 20 Gold medals) on the hand surpassing Thailand with 15 medals in Riyadh in 2023.
