Kulwinder Kaur, the constable who slapped Kangana Ranaut, got upset because of something Kangana said a while ago.
The sources said that the security person who allegedly slapped Kangana Ranaut, the new Mandi MP and actor, at Chandigarh airport for “disrespecting farmers,” was arrested on Friday. This happened a day after she was suspended for the incident.
Kulwinder Kaur, the constable accused of slapping Ms. Ranaut had a police case filed against her and was promptly suspended after the incident on Thursday. The actor was heading to catch a flight to Delhi at Chandigarh Airport on Thursday when the incident occurred.
The security personnel mentioned that the constable’s actions were said to have been provoked by a past comment made by Ms. Ranaut.
Kulwinder Kaur’s statement for Kangana Ranaut
In a video that got viral, the CISF constable remarked that Ms. Kangana Ranaut said that the farmers were protesting there for ₹ 100. Kulwinder Kaur further asked whether Ms. Ranaut would go and join them. The security personnel further added that her mother was among those protesting when she made this statement. She spoke this by referring to Ranaut’s previous statement alleging that women participating in the farmers’ protest were paid ₹100 each to gather at the Delhi borders for the farmers’ protest in 2020 which was against the farm laws passed by the government at the Centre.
When the protests were very strong all over the country, Ms. Ranaut said in a social media post that an old lady at a protest was paid ₹100 to be there. After getting a lot of criticism, she deleted the post.
In a video captured by bystanders at the airport, the Mandi MP is shown being escorted to the security checkpoint where the incident took place. However, upon reaching the area, a dispute arises, and she is subsequently escorted away. The video does not show the reported slap.
“Strategically waited”: Kangana’s response to the incident
Ranaut said that the CISF constable “strategically waited” for the actor to finish the security check, then sneaked up from behind and hit her face without saying anything, like how Khalistanis do.
In a video posted on social media after the incident, Kangana Ranaut, who recently emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha election from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, talked about the confrontation where she was slapped by CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur at the airport. Ranaut hinted at a connection between the assault and terrorism in Punjab.
Kangana Ranaut expressed the situation by saying that the whole thing went down at the security check-in. The female guard waited for her to pass, then came up and struck Ranaut and started hurling abuses. Furthermore, the actor questioned why she hit her. She replied that she stands with the farmers. Ranaut said she’s okay but she is concerned about the rise in terrorism in Punjab. She asked the viewers in her video how they would address that.
She also stated that when she questioned the constable, she shifted focus by interacting with other passengers who were capturing the incident. Ranaut implied that the constable’s actions had political intentions.
On Friday, Ranaut posted on Instagram to share two stories detailing her airport encounter. She likened herself to former PM Indira Gandhi, who was assassinated by her bodyguards.
Criticism regarding comment on Rihanna’s post
The actor received criticism online in February 2021 when she reacted to a post by singer Rihanna regarding the farmers’ protest. Rihanna, the pop icon, shared a video of the farmers protesting and questioned why no one is talking about that.
Ms. Ranaut criticised the post by calling the protesters ‘terrorists.’ She stated that no one is discussing it because the people who are protesting are not farmers, they are terrorists attempting to divide India, so that China can seize the fragile, fractured nation and turn it into a Chinese colony similar to the USA. She further commented by calling their citizens as fools and added that the Indians would not surrender their countries in the same manner as the dummies like them did.
She eventually removed that post.
The farmers’ protest that kicked off in 2020/21 grabbed attention in India and globally. Ms. Ranaut posted multiple times criticising the protests and casting doubt on the validity of the movement, frequently targeting the protesters.
When she was campaigning, protesters in Chandigarh obstructed her convoy due to her remarks.
