Kuwait fire: Aproximately thirty per cent of population of Kuwait is Indians, although they are only one percent of total population and around nine lakhs out of total workforce of Kuwait.
Kuwait fire: At least 40 Indians died of suffocation and scores of others were injured in a fire at a building in the Mangaf area in Kuwait that houses Indian migrants at the southern part of the country on Wednesday.
It started, according to reports, at about 7:00 am this Wednesday from a kitchen on one of the lower floors and rapidly spread through the building, locking many occupants in the burning structure.A total of 175 Indians perished in the disaster and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief said that the Indian Embassy is ‘monitoring the situation and actively engaging with the authorities there to help the affected’.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar condemned the incident saying that he was shocked and the Indian Ambassador has visited the camp.

He has also toured the Al-Adan hospital whereby more than 30 Indian workers who have been affected by the fire incident have been admitted.“He accompanied a number of patients and informed them that the Embassy will support them fully. ”

Even though KUNA stated that the fire had been put out and that the authorities were searching the scene for clues that might point to the incident’s origins.There was a construction building where around 195 labourers were residing such as from the Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The building is owned by NBTC group, which is a company owned by Malayali businessman KG Abraham, as reported by Onmanorama.
The building where the fire happened was a living area for workers, and there were many people inside the building at the time of the fire incidence The police said that dozens of people were salvaged from the fire but many lives were lost because of suffocation due to the smoke from the fire.We have always cautioned and warned against overcrowding workers in housing accommodation, he claimed, without identifying the type of employment of workers or the origin of those from the outskirts.
A Kuwaiti daily, the Kuwait Times, said Kuwait’s interior minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousuf Al-Sabah has directed police to arrest the building owner, the building’s janitor and the owner of the company employing the workers involved in the incident.
Speaking to journalists when he visited the fire scene, the minister stated that what occurred today was as a result of the Company and building owners ’proceeds.
Acting against this Nation, police authorities have revealed that a nose investigation was being conducted to ascertain the reason of the fire.
