Earthquake Hits Nepal with a Magnitude of 6.4

On 04 November 2023 Friday a Earthquake hit Nepal at 11:32 pm. According to ANI 70 persons death has been confirmed and the officers are searching the area.  According to Nepal officers this number can be increased. The number of injured people is not defined yet but it is also a big number. 20 Houses are damaged. The ground has shaken up three times from last night.

Most of the deaths have occurred in Rukum west and Jajarkot. According to media 28 deaths in Rukum and 20 people lost their live in Jajrkot.

Nepal is often hit by earthquakes because of it’s geography situation. The earthquake was in red zone. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.4. It is the 3rd time since last month that earthquake hit Nepal.
According to NCS the epicenter of the earthquake of was 227 km north of Ayodhya in Nepal and 331 Km north – west of Kathmandu a depth of 10 Km.

There is no news of any loss of life and property due to earthquake in India so far. But it could feel in some parts of India.  That includes the capital of India ( Delhi ) , Uttar pradesh , Madhya pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and some part of  north of India.

Earthquake was also felt in Delhi with a magnitude of 6.1. 

Earthquake was felt in Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Satna and Reeva. These all  are districts of Madhya Pradesh. There is no news of any kind of loss yet.

 Some districts of Uttar Pradesh also felt earthquake- Lucknow ( The Capital of Uttar Pradesh ),  Ghaziabad,  Agra, Kasgang . it told that earthquake was felt for 15 Seconds.

The earthquake was felt in 11 districts of Bihar included the capital of Bihar (Patna). Arrah, Darbhanga, Gaya, Vaishali, Khagaria, Siwan, Bettiah, Buxar, Bagaha, Nalanda, Nawada. It is told that Tremors of earthquake was felt for1 mintue.

Some parts of Haryana, The earthquake was also felt. People share there selling fans and lights are shaking.

Why Do Such Severe Earthquake Occur In Nepal ?

Earthquakes occur frequently in Nepal. Nepal is situated on the mountain range where the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates meet and they move closer to each other by about two meters every century, that creates pressure between them. As a result of that pressure earthquake occur. 

Last Big earthquake of Nepal –

The last big earthquake was in 2015. It’s magnitude was 7.8. Almost 9000 people died and 22000 were injured cause of it. 35 Lakh people became homeless. After an assessment the Government said that Nepal is 11th sensitive country in the world in terms of earthquake. So many historical building of Kathmandu were destroyed and hundreds of forign tourists were also hit by that earthquake.

Why Do Earthquake Occur –

Our earth is mainly made up of 7 tectonic plates. These plates keep floating continuously and sometime collide with each other. Cause of the collision, the corners of the plates bend and when there is too much pressure. Cause of this pressure these plates start to break. In that situation the energy released from below finds a way out and after this disturbance an earthquake occurs.

What To Do When Earthquake Occur-

  • Move away from the windows and outside walls
  • Do not use elevators
  • If you are trapped, stay calm 
  • Secure of space
  • Try to connect for help
  • Turn off the gas
  • If driving then stop the vechile
