Amitabh Bachchan is one of the latest names to join Rajnikanth’s Thalaivar 170 after Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati.
Superstar Rajnikanth, whose last venture Jailer was a massive hit at the box office is all set to start with his next big project. TJ Gnanavel, who last helmed Jai Bhim will be directing the Rajnikanth starrer.
On October 3, the creators of Rajnikanth’s upcoming Thalaivar 170 made an exciting announcement regarding the stars onboarding the project. One of the most recent updates saw megastar Amitabh Bachchan joining the Rajnikanth starrer.
The film which is tentatively titled Thalaivar 170 has been receiving a lot of hype owing to the star-studded cast joining the project. The film is speculated to be a power-packed action entertainer and fans can’t wait for it.
Amitabh Bachchan joins Thalaivar 170
The makers of the film have recently taken to their social media to share captivating black and white photos of the star cast.
On Tuesday the production company expressed their enthusiasm announcing that the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan is all set to be a part of the film. Fans can’t keep calm as they are all set to witness two of the greatest actors in the country sharing screen space after thirty-two long years.
The announcement from Lyca Productions on October 3 read, “Welcoming the Shahenshah of Indian cinema. Mr. Amitabh Bachchan on board for #Thalaivar170.#Thalaivar170Team reaches new heights with the towering talent of the one & only @SrBachchan.”
Big B is set to join Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati who were previously announced. Icons Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth were last seen together in the 1991 film Hum.

However, this isn’t Big B’s first association with a Tamil film. The actor turned producer in Ajith and Vikram’s Ullasam, which was released in the year 1997.

Hum was a 1991 action-crime film directed by Mukul S. Anand. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, and Govinda in the lead roles, with Kimi Katkar, Shilpa Shirodkar, Deepa Sahi, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher and Kader Khan in other prominent roles.
Legendary actor and writer Kader Khan also wrote the dialogues for the film. The music for the film was composed by the famous duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
The popular song “Jumma Chumma De De”, sung by Sudesh Bhosle and Kavita Krishnamurthy was from this film. The film was one of the most successful films for the superstar in the early 90’s. In fact, Rajnikanth’s cult classic, Baasha, was an adaptation of Hum.

The film directed by TG Gnanavel and backed by Lyca Productions will also mark the 170th film of superstar Rajnikanth.
“I’m doing my 170th film with director Gnanavel and Lyca which will be a huge entertainer at the same time with a social message,” the 72-year-old actor told the reporters at Chennai airport before leaving for Thiruvananthapuram. The actor added that he is going to shoot for his 170th film and the title is not yet decided.
In addition to Thalaivar and Big B, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan have been roped in pivotal roles. Young sensation Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music for the film. The musician is currently on a high enjoying the success of his exceptional work in Rajnikanth starrer Jailer and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawaan.
Thalaivars upcoming projects
Rajnikanth was last seen in Jailer directed by Nelson and produced by Sun Pictures. The movie was a blockbuster and emerged as a box-office success. His upcoming films include an untitled project with director Lokesh Kanagaraj which will also be an Anirudh musical and daughter Aishwarya Rajnikanth’s directorial venture Lal Salaam.
Big B’s upcoming projects
The actor was last seen in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra which was backed by Dharma Productions. He will be next seen in action-packed entertainer Ganapath with Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon and Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas.
