Franco Colapinto has been set to replace Logan Sargeant at Williams for the rest of the 2024 season. Colapinto would race along with Alex Albon in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Williams Racing has cut off Logan Sargeant, the American driver who is lagging behind his teammate Alex Albon and has consistently failed to score and last weekend he crashed his upgraded car in the FP3. Colapinto has been with Williams Driver Academy and has won at Imola in F2, this year. He drove the FW46, at the Silverstone Circuit this season, and also last year in Yas Marina, for the testing session.

Logan Sargeant has scored one point in the US Grand Prix last year, becoming the first American in three decades, to do so. He would remain part of the team, but Colapinto would take his place. James Vowles, William’s team principal, admitted that it was a necessary step to take and it was a huge setback for Sargeant.

He has said in his statement, this is what dreams are made of, but eventually, he has so much to learn for, he has faith in the team, he has braced himself for the challenges to come and he would definitely aim for success for him and the team.

He would leave his seat in F2, where he was racing for MP Motorsport, his replacement would be announced soon.

Logan Sargeant knew he wouldn’t get a seat next year at Williams, as the team was hellbent on signing Carlos Sainz, who recently announced before the summer break he has signed with Williams, a one year deal. His disastrous incidents and inability to score has compelled Williams to take the decision to drop Logan Sargeant and replace him with a rookie, Franco Colapinto has become the first driver from Argentina to race in Formula One.

James Vowles has stated that it is a huge opportunity for Franco to display his skills and he believes he would score points for the team, ahead in this season. Alex Albon, fellow Williams driver had posted in support of Sargeant, that the sport is brutal and things happen, wishing him luck for his future.

Sargeant has came close to 11th place, while Albon has already scored four points, this was a high level crisis for the team to take some big step, and hence they decided to cut off Sargeant, in the chase of points in the tight competitive field.
