Lok Sabha Election 2024: EC Should Repolling At Barasat, Mathurapur In West Bengal Amid Violence Reports

1

Kolkata, 3rd June: The Lok Sabha Election 2024 will decide the future of West Bengal to a large extent. This election will have a diversified impact on the dynamic politics of West Bengal and the surrounding political parties. TMC and the Left party’s power will either be retained or razed. This state discerns violence and fair contestations among BJP and TMC. No other political parties could have influenced people’s minds like these two.

Amid the important 42 seats, people in West Bengal are eagerly waiting and debating for the election result. They are more interested in viewing the result in their state and constituencies other than the nation. But without any violence, the West Bengal election seems unfurnished. A similar clash occurred in two constituencies of West Bengal, i.e. Barasat and Mathurapur.

The Incidents Occurred In West Bengal

Clashes broke out among the supporters of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), and Indian Secular Front (ISF) in various parts of the state during the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha Election 2024. Both of the constituencies conducted their votes on June 1 but it was reported that these political parties co-jointly collided with each other and violence spread like fire. In West Bengal’s Basirhat it was reported that an alleged clash broke out between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Bayarbari during the seventh phase of Lok Sabha election 2024.

In a related incident of Meraganj in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, TMC and BJP clashed which resulted in several people’s injuries from both parties. A similar incident was reported in the most deliberated place of West Bengal, i.e. Sandeshkhali in the Lok Sabha election 2024. In the Sandeshkhali of Basirhat, police faced resistance from local women, and the BJP candidate of Basirhat namely Rekha Patra confronted clashes with local police.

Ideally, those women who resisted Sadhan Nandi from being arrested by police are most likely BJP supporters too. Sadhan Nandi was allegedly involved in Saturday’s violence. During the police operation, a scuffle ensued. The Agarhati village in Sandeshkhali witnessed another round of skirmishes after the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024.

A senior police officer said that local women in this village were involved in a scuffle with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel, blocked roads, and fell tree trunks when the police person reached there to arrest the alleged few persons involved in Saturday’s violence.

“We have not arrested anyone, but local women have started protesting. Some of our female colleagues are injured. We are trying to talk to them and remove the barricades from the roads,” the officer in Basirhat Police District told PTI.

He added that there was an attempt by local women to snatch the detained person (Sadhan Nandi), but the move was foiled. “We are trying to bring the situation under control. A huge number of RAF, Quick Response Team (QRT) and policemen are present here,” the officer said.

Other than these, the political parties collided in Jadavpur and Diamond Harbour constituencies when nine parliamentary constituencies were voting in the last phase of Lok Sabha election 2024. In Jadavpur, a confrontation at Bhangar between TMC and ISF backers led to allegations from both sides about crude bombs being hurled. Kolkata Police said the incident happened in the morning before the poll process began.
