Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BSP’s Mayawati Removes Nephew Akash Anand As Political Heir

On Tuesday, the Chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Mayawati, made a significant announcement regarding the leadership within the party. She revealed that her nephew, Akash Anand, has been relieved of his duties as the national coordinator of the party. This decision comes as a surprise, especially considering the considerable attention that surrounded Akash Anand’s appointment just five months ago.

In a recent tweet, the leader of the BSP shared a significant update concerning Akash Anand’s position within the party. Mayawati explained that she had previously appointed Akash Anand as the National Coordinator of the BSP and her potential successor. However, after careful consideration of the party’s overall goals and mission, she has opted to temporarily relieve him of these important duties until he gains more experience and maturity. This decision underscores the party’s commitment to its long-term objectives and the development of its leadership team.

Additionally, she mentioned that Akash Anand’s father, Anand Kumar, will continue to carry out his duties within the party and the broader movement, just as he has done in the past. This reaffirms the BSP’s unwavering commitment to making any necessary sacrifices for the betterment of the party and its mission. The leadership remains steadfast in its dedication to advancing the legacy of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar and ensuring the progress of the movement.

This development follows an incident on April 28, 2024, when Akash Anand, along with four others, was accused of violating the Model Code of Conduct. They allegedly used inappropriate language during a campaign rally in Sitapur.

He criticized the BJP-led state government, labeling it as a “bulldozer government” and accusing it of being traitorous. He further likened it to a “terrorist government” for neglecting the youth and mistreating the elderly, drawing parallels with the Taliban’s governance in Afghanistan. As a result, a case was filed against him under several sections including IPC 171C (undue influence at elections), 153B (imputation, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), and section 125 of the Representation of People Act.

Mayawati explained that her decision was made with the welfare of the BSP and the broader movement in mind. She emphasized that Anand’s temporary removal from his role was to allow him time to reach a level of “full maturity” before resuming his responsibilities.

It’s worth mentioning that the BSP has opted out of forming an alliance with the SP-Congress coalition in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This decision signifies that they will be going solo this year, charting their own course for the electoral battle ahead.
