Lok Sabha Election 2024 Voting Live Updates: At 10:15 p.m. on May 7, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat had nearly 57% voter turnout in Phase 3 voting. Meanwhile, Assam had the highest turnout, at 77%.

On March 16, the Election Commission of India (ECI) called general elections for the 18th Lok Sabha and four states: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases between April and May, with more than 90 crore eligible voters voting for 543 Lower House seats. Results are expected by June 4.

In the third phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, voting will take place in 93 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 11 states and union territories. This phase will see at least 1,331 candidates compete for approximately half of the 543 Lok Sabha seats.

What Are The Highlights Of The Third Phase Of The Lok Sabha Elections?

Voting in Gujarat, Goa, and the union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as Daman and Diu, concluded on Tuesday. In addition, with polling underway in 14 seats in this round, Karnataka’s elections for all 28 seats have concluded. The Lok Sabha election for Chhattisgarh’s 11 seats has already been completed, with seven seats voting. 

The remaining seats in the third phase include four in Assam, five in Bihar, seven in Chhattisgarh, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, ten in Uttar Pradesh, and four in West Bengal. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the first to vote on Tuesday. Before casting his vote, the Prime Minister asked all those participating in today’s round to vote in large numbers. “Their involvement is sure to make the elections more active,” the PM wrote on X.

The fate of around 283 Lok Sabha seats will be decided after the third phase. This means that elections for more than half of the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be completed in the first three stages.

Voting started at 7 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. According to the survey panel, 39.92% of voters turned out across 93 seats until 1pm on Tuesday during Phase 3. West Bengal had the highest turnout (49.27%) until 1 p.m. 

Among the renowned candidates whose fates are sealed in this phase are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is running from Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha (MP), Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna (Madhya Pradesh), and Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh), to name a few. 

In the third phase, Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule will face off against his nephew Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar for the Baramati seat in Maharashtra.

Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya (Porbandar), Parshottam Rupala (Rajkot), and Pralhad Joshi (Dharwad) are also running in this round of elections.

The third round will allow up to 17.24 crore electors to cast their votes. The electoral panel reported that around 18.5 lakh polling officers had been deployed over 1.85 lakh polling stations. There are more than 14.04 lakh registered voters aged 85 and up. Another 39,599 voters are over the age of 100 in phase 3 polling.

Earlier Phases Of The Lok Sabha Elections:

The first two waves of elections were held on April 19 and 26. Overall, voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be conducted in seven phases. The following phases will occur on May 13, 20, 25, and June 1. The votes collected through all the seven phases will be collectively counted on June 4.

According to the Election Commission’s official statement, voter turnout was 66.14% in phase 1 for 102 PCs and 66.71% in phase 2 for 88 PCs who went to the polls in both phases.
